Tears can be surprisingly activating for many people. Not because crying itself is wrong, but because of what we were taught about it.

For most of us, tears were never normalized growing up. Somewhere along the way we heard messages like “stop crying,” “you’re being too sensitive,” or “pull yourself together.” Over time those messages get stored in the nervous system. So when tears start to come, they don’t just bring emotion, they can also bring shame.

Suddenly we feel exposed. Weak. Embarrassed. Like something about us is not okay.

But tears are not a problem. They are actually one of the body’s most natural forms of release.

When emotions build up in the nervous system, the body looks for ways to move that energy out. Crying is one of the ways the body processes and discharges stress. It’s the system completing a cycle that was never meant to stay trapped inside.

The shame that follows tears usually isn’t about the tears themselves. It’s about the conditioning around them.

Many of us were taught that emotions should be controlled, hidden, or pushed away. But when emotions are suppressed instead of released, they don’t disappear. They stay in the body and often show up later as tension, anxiety, irritation, or emotional overwhelm.

Learning to allow tears without judging ourselves is an important part of emotional healing and nervous system regulation.

When we stop fighting the release, something shifts. The body learns that emotions are not dangerous. They are simply energy moving through.

Tears are not weakness.
They are movement.
They are processing.
They are the body creating space for something new.

And when we allow that release, we come back into a deeper sense of connection with ourselves.

Something beautiful is growing at Healing Hearts Breathwork & Reiki Studio, and we’re excited to share it with you.

Because of the incredible response and the powerful experiences people have been having in our community Breathwork sessions, we are expanding.

Beginning this month, Group Breathwork will now be offered twice each month.

These gatherings are a space to pause, breathe, and reconnect. Through guided breath, music, and intentional space-holding, participants often experience emotional release, clarity, nervous system reset, and a deeper connection to themselves.

If you’ve been curious about Breathwork or have been waiting for another opportunity to join us, this is it.
