Our bodies are self-regulated by our autonomic nervous systems. Our autonomic nervous systems have two parts: sympathetic (fight or flight) 🏃🏾‍♀️ and parasympathetic (rest and digest) 🛌.
When we have an ⬆️ in sympathetic dominance, it can cause a plethora of issues. Increased stress hormones, increased inflammation, insulin resistance, and decreased immune function to name a few. I think we can all agree these are bad.
So how do we ⬆️ parasympathetic dominance instead? What can we do on a daily basis to decrease stress, decrease inflammation and improve our immune response?
The two best things that we can do is breathwork (specifically belly breaths) and meditation. 🧘🏼‍♂️
Breathwork and meditation physiologically and biologically change our states of being. They decrease stress and put us into a more relaxed state.
5️⃣ types of breathwork to try:
Cadence
Wim Hof
Clarity
Biodynamic
Transformational
You could also just start with inhaling slowly through your nose for 5 seconds, holding for 5 sec, exhaling slowly through your nose for 5 sec, holding for 5 sec and repeating that cycle for 5 minutes.
🌿 A few other things to help improve our immune health are water, nutritious foods, exercise, sunlight, reading, socially interacting, yoga, vitamin C, vitamin D, zinc and elderberry.
The more that we can pursue a parasympathetic state of being, the healthier we will become.
Breathe. 🌬

We are at (and have been at for decades) a point in our society, where we have to ask these questions in terms of our health as a species.

Are we moving towards health, happiness and quality of life?

Do masks, social distancing and quarantines produce health and/or improve our immune response?

Are the pills, potions, measures, strategies and techniques that we are using for our healthcare system moving us TOWARDS health, happiness and quality of life?

Do artificial immunity techniques actually
improve the strength of the host?

In Indiana (one of the unhealthiest states in an unhealthy country), should we be allowing small business to shut down for a virus with a 00.06% mortality rate?

The answer is “No” to all of these questions.

These measures are not bad things, but they are not the long-term solution to our chronic illness pandemic that has been going on for decades.

For the large majority of our population, it is not the genes that we posses, but the genes that we express that create chronic illness.

Habitat and lifestyle choices determine gene expression.

Even the

Imagine that you had a plant that was wilting.

What’s the first thing you would do?

You would give it water or sunlight, check the soil or eliminate toxins around it. (Check it’s lifestyle and habitat)

Why would you do that? Because you believe that a plant is genetically programmed to express health (which it is).

You wouldn’t first ask, “hm, what drug treatment can I use to treat the wilting?”

Health is simple. It’s just a lost wisdom.

One of the most important parts of being a chiropractor is being sure of your personal philosophy.

Two of my greatest passions are chiropractic and personal development which have both helped develop my chiropractic philosophy.

My chiropractic philosophy is recognizing that the power that created the body can heal the body, and that your body has the ability to heal from the inside out.

A chiropractic adjustment allows for better communication between the brain and spinal cord, which control every muscle, cell, tissue and organ in the body.

I have developed my chiropractic philosophy by seeing the power of an adjustment and by teaching people that the human species is meant to move, to eat well, to have positive emotions, to be outside and to socially interact with one another. This is the best way to live a high quality of life.

We as a human species are designed to thrive. But, we must follow these fundamental health truths.

I once had a patient walk in using a walker to get around. She was told that her issue was in her head. After multiple adjustments, modalities and rehabilitative exercises, she was walking again within two weeks.

I’m extremely passionate about chiropractic, health and wellness.

It’s so rewarding and fulfilling to be a part of a profession that helps people heal from the inside out. It’s even more fulfilling to teach people that this is the way we were naturally designed to heal.

My definition of the science of chiropractic is being able to find and treat different musculoskeletal malfunctions to decrease pain, increase mobility and help people live more healthy and active lifestyles.

Our mind is our greatest tool and our greatest asset.

My first priority with all my patients is to help them have a mindset shift to understand that we have the capability to heal our own bodies with proper nutrition, exercise and mindset.

The art of chiropractic refers to all of the different chiropractic techniques.

Every chiropractor is different because hundreds of different techniques exist!

Chiropractic has three main aspects:

1. The science
2. The art
3. The philosophy

I view chiropractic as an art because there are so many different techniques to accomplish the same goal.

Just like painting, you take a blank canvas and apply the different types of brushes, paints, and techniques to create your work of art.

Each patient that comes to see me is a blank canvas.

It’s been extremely gratifying to develop my own art form over the past four years.

Through my chiropractic journey, I’ve learned that the most important thing for people to understand is that our bodies have the innate ability to heal themselves from the inside out.

A lot of us grew up with a narrative that we needed an outside intervention for our health. When in reality, true health comes from inside all of us.

⚡️ PAIN ⚡️
It’s important to treat the person with the symptom and not just the symptom. 🙏🏼
If you’re in pain, is your body deficient in aspirin, naproxen or ibuprofen? No. 💊
Did you know that NSAIDs (such as naproxen and ibuprofen) increase your risk for heart attack, stroke, GI bleeding and a hospital visit? 🏩
What even is pain? Pain is a perception in your body that tells you that something may be wrong. It can be dull, aching, sharp, stabbing, throbbing, pinching, constant, intermittent, mild, debilitating or describe in many other different ways. 😩
Pain can cause other symptoms like numbness, tingling, weakness, nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, or emotional effects like anger, depression, mood swings or irritability. It can change your lifestyle or impact your job and relationships. 🤬
Pain is either acute or chronic. Acute pain is usually severe and short-lived, and it is often a signal that your body has been injured. Chronic pain can range from mild to severe, is present for long periods of time and is often the result of something that may require ongoing treatment. ⏳
Next time you are in pain, try these first:
1️⃣ Drink at least half of your body weight in oz of water
2️⃣ Eat less inflammatory foods (foods high in sugar, refined carbs, processed meats or alcohol)
3️⃣ Yoga or develop a stretching routine
4️⃣ Light exercise like walking or swimming
5️⃣ Breathe slowly and deeply
6️⃣ Prioritize sleep
7️⃣ Meditate (I suggest the Calm app)
8️⃣ Ice (first 72 hours) or Heat
A pain reliever does not fix compression, decreased range of motion, sprains/strains, disc bulges, headaches, sciatica and many other musculoskeletal conditions. A pain reliever MASKS why you are in pain. 💊
Decreased pain does not mean increased health and function. 🏃🏽‍♂️

We all have choices every single day.

🥗 What are you eating and drinking every day? How does it make you feel? Does it upset your gut? Are you tired? Are you sad? Are you lethargic?
💻 What are you watching/looking at every single day? Does it make you happier? Does it add a value to your life? Do you feel calm watching it?
📚 What are you listening to every single day? Are you filling your head with books, podcasts, or positive conversations?
🤔 Who are the people that you surround yourself with every day? Do they lift you up? Do they speak positively of others? Do they make you feel loved?
🌎 You can’t add value to the world if you aren’t taking care of yourself and adding value to yourself first.
What you consume daily matters. Food, Drinks, TV, Netflix, Music, Books, Podcasts, News, Conversations; the list goes on and on.
Be more aware of things that aren’t serving you. Assess and edit these things daily. ☀️

I made a close friend named Blake while in chiropractic school. We connected on our passions for chiropractic, natural healthcare, and living an active lifestyle.

Through school we would constantly talk about opening up an office in Indianapolis.

One day we heard about a car accident Blake was in. He was in the hospital for 30 days until we heard the gut-wrenching news. We learned that he passed away.

We are so lucky to be here on earth.

Blake taught me to be grateful. He helped me learn how to overcome true human fears in my life.

I’ve learned that any trial can be turned into a triumph.

Any adversity that we face today, we can see it as an opportunity to grow.

I believe the story of me losing Blake can resonate with a lot of people. I think Blake can teach others that life is truly precious.

We have the opportunity to seek healing, health, and wellness instead of being fearful of sickness, disease, and death.

I was at dinner the night my mom called me saying my dad had a heart attack.

My dad and I had a typical TV father-son relationship.

He was a blue-collar worker who constructed telephone lines and was hard on me in sports.

Seeing my dad have a heart attack made me sad and was extremely surreal, so I saw a counselor for the first time because of it.

Through these experiences, my dad and I were able to come together for the first time in my life to share our honest thoughts.

We talked about our relationship and how we can continue to grow closer as we get older.

My dad has taught me many things in life.

With his job connecting others to their electricity, I see chiropractic as a similar thing.
The brain is connected to the spinal cord and our nervous system controls everything in our body.

My dad’s heart attack gives me motivation everyday to be an example to my family.

I believe more healthcare providers need to be examples of what great health looks like.

So for me, I don’t want a dad bod. I want to be a father figure. 😎
