I will never forget this day. On November 26, 2019, I provided evidence to a federal court judge, proving years of agonizing covert abuse. Finally, despite the belief of anyone who knew them, I was at last freed of my abusers’ hold. In this particular photo, I had just come in from a run and the rest of my identification papers had finally arrived, effectively ensuring that my abusers would no longer be able to find me ever again. This was when I was finally able to finish the legal process of going into hiding, and begin the healing process of recovering from trauma.
