World Cancer Day

Today, we honor and stand with everyone impacted by cancer. At Language Fundamentals, we are especially proud to spotlight our incredible Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) who dedicate their careers to helping patients regain their ability to breathe, use their voice, and eat confidently after life-saving treatments such as surgical resections, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. While these treatments can save lives, they often have a significant impact on a person’s ability to breathe, speak, and swallow.

Research has shown that speech therapy interventions provided before, during, and after treatment play a crucial role in improving outcomes and quality of life for these patients. Studies highlight that early involvement of SLPs in cancer care leads to better recovery of vital functions such as voice and swallowing, empowering patients to regain independence and confidence in their everyday lives.

We are honored to be part of this journey, working hand in hand with our patients and their care teams. Your resilience inspires us every day, and we remain committed to helping you overcome challenges and celebrate victories—big and small.

One of my greatest privileges is being allowed to write the post for today. Melissa came up with the idea of a month-long celebration of gratitude a few years back and since then we’ve gone through several iterations. We have grown, adapted and matured (I can only hope) as a company. Some of the staff has changed, some have remained. Today, I have a newfound gratitude for everyone in our team. Even now, a day of rest and reflection, there are clinicians out in facilities, helping people eat that would not otherwise be able to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal today. Other clinicians are also with their families, taking a well-deserved day with families and loved ones. I am so humbled and grateful for each and every one of you. Thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of this journey.
