Spring Break ✨😵‍💫

Certainly, students and teachers are looking forward to the upcoming Spring Break to enjoy some much-deserved time to recharge.

And for a lot of us parents, this break can also bring up stress with the changes in routine, increased demands, and all of that (mostly) quality time together.

Here’s some tips for coping with Spring Break stress:
🔅 Make a plan - planning ahead will help you feel more calm and present in the moment.
🔅 Connect with neighbors - socializing close to home can be recharging and convenient.
🔅 Reach out to your ‘village’ - if childcare issues arise, trusted family and friends can be a great resource.
🔅 Take care of yourself - finding time for self-care will help to decompress and destress.

If you are finding it challenging to either put these tips into use, or to manage the inevitably stressful demands of parenthood, connecting with Hudson Valley Counseling and Wellness may be for you. Working with our clinicians can help to increase your confidence in your role as a parent and to build skills for coping with daily stress.

Reach out to our office at (845) 202-2466 with any inquiries and to set up a consultation.

The Anger Iceberg

Anger is just the tip of the iceberg - it’s an emotion that people feel more comfortable showing to the world, than what vulnerable emotions might be stirred up below the surface. And sometimes, it’s hard to understand the source of your anger, which can make managing angry reactions more difficult.

Mismanaged anger can impact not only your emotional wellbeing, but also your professional and personal relationships.

Reach out to Hudson Valley Counseling and Wellness today if you’re experiencing challenges related to anger. Working with one of our clinicians can help you understand and manage your anger in more appropriate ways.

✨Progress. It looks different on everyone ✨

With the year coming to an end, many people are taking to social media to share a ’wrap-up’ of their year through photos or videos. While it’s a positive thing to express gratitude and celebrate the beauty that the past year has provided, those wrap-ups are often orchestrated to portray the highlight reel of people’s lives.

So, even though the wonderful moments being shared really happened, it’s not REALITY.

Comparing your life to the ‘highlight reel’ of others’ will often lead to disappointment, because you are not seeing the ways in which they struggled in between the moments they’re willing to share with the world. Comparing your full reality to only a glimpse of someone else’s can make it difficult to acknowledge and celebrate your own progress, which is unfair.

Your progress, no matter what it looks like, is still PROGRESS. You deserve to celebrate your wins, even when they don’t look like others’ and you don’t feel ready to share them with the world.

If you’re struggling with feeling like you’re progressing in life or if comparing yourself to others is negatively impacting your life, working with a provider at Hudson Valley Counseling and Wellness can help. Reach out today to inquire about beginning a journey towards self-acceptance and celebration of your progress, whatever that may look like.

✨Boundaries ✨

Effective boundaries protect our personal space, our physical and mental health, and our safety and security.

Setting and maintaining boundaries can be difficult for numerous reasons - fear of disapproval or rejection, feeling guilty or selfish, even a lack of understanding of one’s own needs. If boundaries are unclear, it can lead to anxiety or feelings of insecurity, which can be emotionally and physically damaging.

Boundaries are not selfish, they are an important part of self-care!

If you’re experiencing challenges with boundaries and find that your wellbeing is impacted, reach out to Hudson Valley Counseling and Wellness today! Working with our providers will help you gain insight into your wants and needs, as well as build the skills to set and protect your boundaries.

It’s ok to be ✨ YOU ✨

It is part of the human experience to make mistakes and have bad days. It’s also necessary, at times, to do what’s best for you, as opposed to what’s best for those around you.

If you find yourself struggling with self-acceptance or boundaries, working with a therapist can be helpful.

Reach out to Hudson Valley Counseling and Wellness today to connect with one of our providers and begin your self-acceptance journey today 🌻

Adults aren’t the only ones with mental health 🗣️

The students in our lives are also impacted by stress, responsibilities, and challenges, which can influence the state of their mental health.

As caregivers, it’s important to be aware of warning signs that your child might be struggling and to know how to provide support.

The first step towards supporting someone’s mental health is to open up a discussion about it - it’s never to late to start those conversations! Regularly checking in with the children in your life can create opportunities for stronger connections and earlier treatment, if needed.

‘Being gentle’ can look like self-acceptance, boundary setting, intentional self-care, or seeking support. No one’s holiday season will look the same, so why create plans and traditions that fit YOU and yours.
