Hyperthyroid vs. Hypothyroid — and Why Your Thyroid Matters When You’re TTC
Most people don’t think about their thyroid until something feels “off.” But when you’re trying to get pregnant, this tiny gland can have a huge impact.
Here’s a simple way to understand the difference:
💛 Hyperactive Thyroid (Hyperthyroidism)
This is when your thyroid is working overtime.
You might notice:
• Irregular or missing periods
• Trouble ovulating
• Feeling anxious, hot, or that your heart is racing
These shifts can make it harder for your body to get (and stay) pregnant.
💙 Hypoactive Thyroid (Hypothyroidism)
This is when your thyroid is moving slowly.
You might feel:
• Extra tired
• Cold more often
• Changes in weight
• Heavier or unpredictable periods
Low thyroid levels can also affect ovulation and fertility.
✨ The hopeful part?
Thyroid issues are very treatable — and getting the right testing can often bring clarity, relief, and a path forward.
