At Southern Dutchess Eye Care, we love our eyewear but special occasions may call for more emphasis on your eyes. Contacts can be a great option for a frame-free look in photos and on the dance floor—but comfort and eye health come first!

If you’re new to contact lens wear, be sure to schedule a fitting and thorough eye exam ahead of time so you can get used to them before prom. And don’t forget: always follow proper hygiene, wear them only as directed, and bring a backup pair of glasses—just in case.

Need an appointment for a contact lens fitting? Book online to see available time slots at www.sdec2020.com. Or call us at (845) 896-6700.

February is Age-related Macular Degeneration Awareness Month.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is one of the leading causes of vision loss in adults over 50 — and many people don’t notice early symptoms.

Macular degeneration affects your central vision, which you rely on for reading, driving, recognizing faces, and seeing fine details.

While there is no cure for AMD, early detection matters. With regular comprehensive eye exams, we can monitor changes, identify risk factors, and recommend treatment or nutritional support to help slow progression of vision loss.

If you’re over 50 — this is your reminder to schedule your annual eye exam. Visit sdec2020.com.
Your vision is worth protecting.

When life feels overwhelming, your visual system often feels it right along with your mind and body.

Here are a few common ocular effects of stress we see in practice:

🔹 Eye strain & fatigue – Stress tightens muscles throughout the body, including the tiny muscles that help your eyes focus.

🔹 Blurred vision – Elevated stress hormones can temporarily affect focusing ability and tear film stability, leading to intermittent blur.

🔹 Dry, irritated eyes – Stress can decrease blink rate and impact tear production, worsening dryness and discomfort.

🔹 Eye twitching – Stress + fatigue + caffeine are common triggers.

🔹 Headaches – When the eyes are working harder to stay aligned and focused, symptoms can include pressure around the eyes and temples.

🔹 Eye infections — lack of sleep compromises your bodies immune system making your eyes more susceptable to conjunctivitis (pink eye) and other eye infections.

Many stress-related vision symptoms are temporary — but if your vision feels “off,” don’t ignore it. Let’s rule out any underlying conditions and make sure everything is healthy.

And even if stress is the cause, we can often help relieve the discomfort so your vision is more comfortable.
