Today I was reflecting on Martin Luther King Jr. An interesting part of his story is that he moved to Chicago to draw attention to black ghettos. The hatred and racism he encountered jarred him so much he had to move his family back down south. Where he would eventualy be assassinated.
Here in the Midwest we like to think of ourselves as “the good white people” and in doing so we divorce ourselves from our history and from the truth.
With the exception of Minnesota and Illinois Donald Trump won the Midwest handily in 2024, even more so than he did in 2020. And that election’s consequences are playing out in Minneapolis and the country at large.
We are part of the problem, and we must be part of the solution.
“No one is free until we are all free.”

This is something I often hear about my profession - that I am paid to care. It’s incredibly misleading and I think prevents people from trying therapy. I am paid for my time, I am paid for my expertise and my education.
The caring is free. Because it is impossible to listen to someone, learn about them and watch them try to better themself and to NOT care for them.
