In recognition of Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, we want to share a bit of information about Pap testing and how it may be able to help you.

What is a Pap test?
Also called a Pap smear or cervical cytology, it is a simple screening test that collects cells from the cervix to look for abnormal changes (including precancer) that could develop into cervical cancer if not found and treated.

Why do they matter?
Pap tests can help catch cell changes early, often before you even have symptoms, so your provider can monitor or treat them before they become cancer.

When should I get one?
The CDC says anyone with a cervix should start testing at 21.
Between 21 and 29, if results are normal, providers may recommend waiting 3 years until your next one. Those between 30 to 65 should talk with your provider about screening options which may include Pap tests, HPV tests, or co-testing.

Our Reproductive Health Clinic is local, safe, and welcoming for anyone looking for Pap testing, STI testing, and other important sexual health services.
