It is Movement Monday, and this week we are spotlighting Dance for PD! 💃💜

Dance for PD is a program that offers dance classes specifically designed for people living with Parkinson's disease. Founded in 2001 through a partnership between the Mark Morris Dance Group and the Brooklyn Parkinson Group, the program has grown into a worldwide community with classes available in person and online.

Dance for PD classes focus on movement, rhythm, and expression in a welcoming, joyful environment. Participants explore balance, coordination, and mobility through dance, all while connecting with others who understand the journey.

Today we celebrate International Tea Day ☕

Tea has always been more than just a drink for me. It’s a moment of pause, connection, and comfort. Some of my favorite memories are the simple ones, sharing tea with my dad, talking, laughing, and just being present together.
In the work we do at Senior Helpers, those same small moments matter so much. Sitting with a client, sharing a warm cup of tea, listening to their stories… that’s where real care happens.
It’s not always about the big things. Sometimes it’s just about being there.
If you’re able to today, take a moment to slow down and enjoy a cup of tea with someone you love.

Happy International Tea Day 💛

It is Movement Monday, and today we are bringing the movement to you! 🪑💜

For those living with Parkinson's, staying active does not always mean hitting the gym. Seated exercises are a safe, accessible way to keep the body moving, build strength, and support balance, all from the comfort of a chair.

Here are a few simple moves to try right now:
🙌 Arm Raises: Slowly lift both arms overhead and lower them back down.
🦵 Seated Leg Lifts: Extend one leg at a time and hold for a few seconds.
🔄 Ankle Circles: Rotate each ankle in slow circles to keep joints loose.
🤸 Torso Twists: Gently rotate your upper body side to side.
👐 Hand Squeezes: Open and close your hands to keep grip strength up.

Always check with a doctor or physical therapist before starting a new exercise routine. And remember, every little bit counts! 💪

It is Movement Monday, and this week we are diving into one of the most important questions in Parkinson's care: why does movement matter? 💜🚶

For those living with Parkinson's disease, staying active is about so much more than fitness. Regular movement can help reduce stiffness, improve balance and coordination, support mental and emotional wellbeing, and make a meaningful difference in overall quality of life.

The best part? It does not have to be intense. Even gentle, intentional movement can have a real impact.
Follow along as we break it all down this Movement Monday! 💪

There’s something special about being part of a client’s journey from rehab back to the comfort of home.

This week, I had the opportunity to personally accompany one of our clients as they transitioned home, alongside one of our dedicated caregivers. From the moment we left rehab to getting them safely settled in, our focus was simple: comfort, safety, and peace of mind.

We made sure everything was in place — a safe environment, clear plan of care, and a smooth handoff so there’s no gap in support. Having the caregiver present from the start helps build trust and ensures continuity right from day one.

Transitions like these can feel overwhelming for families, but they don’t have to be. With the right support, coming home can be the beginning of a safe and confident recovery.

This is what our Return Home approach is all about — being there every step of the way.

Not all fats are created equal. Some fats help support heart and brain health, while others are best enjoyed in moderation. Understanding the difference can make everyday food choices easier. 🫒💜

Good fats are typically unsaturated fats. These fats can help support cholesterol levels, brain function, and overall heart health. You’ll often find them in foods like:
• Avocados
• Olive oil and canola oil
• Nuts and seeds
• Fatty fishlike salmon and tuna

Bad fats are usually saturated or trans fats. Eating too much of these fats may increase the risk of heart health concerns, so they are best limited when possible. Common sources include:
• Fried foods
• Processed snacks
• Baked goods made with shortening
• Fast food meals and processed meats

Choosing more good fats and limiting bad fats is one simple way to support healthy aging through nutrition.

In recognition of Brain Awareness Week, it’s a great time to highlight foods that support brain health at every age. 🧠💜

Here are a few brain-healthy foods to keep in mind:
• Fatty fish like salmon and tuna
• Leafy greens such as spinach and kale
• Berries, especially blueberries and strawberries
• Nuts and seeds like walnuts and flaxseed
• Whole grains that support steady energy
• Olive oil for healthy fats

Pairing balanced nutrition with other healthy habits can help support memory, focus, and overall brain wellness as we age.
