🌿🚫 Fertilizers can pose a risk to your furry friends, so pet owners need to be cautious!

🐾 While most fertilizers are safe when used properly, your pet may experience skin irritation or mild gastrointestinal symptoms if they come into contact with or ingest the product. If you think your pet has been exposed to fertilizer, use warm water to remove it from their skin and monitor for any symptoms.

πŸ‘€ Keep your pet away from fertilized areas to prevent any accidents!πŸ™…

🦠 Parvovirus is a highly contagious viral infection that can be devastating to dogs. Puppies and unvaccinated dogs are most at risk. Transmission occurs when your dog comes into contact with an infected dog or contaminated object.

If your dog displays signs of lethargy, fever, vomiting, abdominal pain, or severe, bloody diarrhea, they may be infected with parvovirus. To protect your pet, call us at Northern AZ Vet Emergency & Specialty at 928-779-5522 to consult with a Veterinarian. We're here to help! 🩺

❀️ We all want our feline friends to be healthy and happy, but heartworm disease can be a major obstacle for cats. Unfortunately, no approved treatment exists for heartworm disease in cats, and management focuses on stabilizing the cat and closely monitoring their condition with frequent chest X-rays.

Steroids and antibiotics may be used to help address inflammation and infection, but the average survival time for heartworm-infected cats is only one and a half years. Stay vigilant and protect your cat's health by taking preventative measures!

Providing year-round heartworm prevention is an important part of your pet’s health care plan. If you would like to discuss the various preventives, contact our team at Northern AZ Vet Emergency & Specialty by calling 928-779-5522, so we can determine what protocol would best fit you and your pet’s lifestyle.

🐾🧠 Pets need mental stimulation throughout their entire lives, not just when they're young. Encourage your adult pet to learn new tricks, solve food puzzles, and sniff out treats to keep their cognitive function strong.

🐢🐱 As pets age, they can suffer from cognitive dysfunction, which can cause anxiety and stress if they forget familiar faces, how doors open, or the location of their food bowl.

πŸ‘πŸ‘΅ Help your senior pet maintain their mental health by providing plenty of enrichment activities. Call to talk to your veterinarian for more information.

Is your dog trying to tell you something? Understanding their body language is key! While vocalizations are important, dogs primarily communicate through body posture and facial expression. Make sure to observe their entire body and consider the context to accurately interpret their non-verbal messages. Your pup will appreciate it!

🐢🐱 Do you struggle with problem behaviors in your male pet, like marking or aggression?

🚫 Neutering can help! Neutered pets are typically less aggressive and less likely to urine-mark their territory or exhibit mounting behavior.

πŸΎπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ A healthy diet is just one part of keeping your pet in tip-top shape. Exercise is just as important! Make sure your furry friend gets up and moving every day.

🐱 For cats, several short play sessions throughout the day are best. Dogs benefit from a longer walk or a game of fetch.

🐢🎾 Whatever your pet's preference, just make sure they're moving. It'll do wonders for their health. Need help coming up with an exercise routine? Call 928-779-5522 to talk to your veterinarian.
