LOTTIE SCHEDULED FOR EUTHANASIA TODAY!
Mira still thinks about the old dog she met in the back corner of Oakridge Shelter—the one they called Lottie. When Mira first stepped into the dim kennel aisle, Lottie tried to melt into the shadows, her trembling frame pressed against the wall as if hiding could undo everything she’d endured. Her coat was patchy, her ribs faintly visible, and a stiff limp hinted at years of pain she had learned to endure in silence.
But two days later, something changed. When Mira returned with soft words and slower steps, Lottie lifted her head. She inched forward, cautious but curious, as though testing whether kindness could be real. Her cloudy eyes met Mira’s with a fragile spark of hope, and in that moment, Mira knew this dog still had a heart willing to trust.
Lottie had been found wandering Millen Creek, alone and exhausted. The shelter labeled her “fear reactive,” but that never came close to describing the gentle soul beneath the fear. She deserved soft beds, warm hands, and a world without pain—everything she had been denied for far too many years.
Mira wished she could have saved her. She wished Lottie had known what love felt like.
