Norovirus, RSV, Flu, Covid, Pneumonia…What Next?
Over the last few years, there has been no shortage of debates and opinions on how to better protect our health. One thing not debatable has been the realization and awareness of how important and valuable our personal health is in the grand scheme of things, and our quality of life.
So… what level of health would you like to have next month, in six months, in a year, in five years, in 10 years? I’m sure we’d all say, “Excellent Health”. But what steps are you taking to achieve that goal right now? What’s your plan?
I think we’d all agree, we have a measure of control in determining our health, whether it is in the near or in the distant future. But we must act! We must take action steps to secure a better health level we are to experience the benefits of good health. As the song goes, “Time Waits For No One.” We cannot sit on the sidelines and expect our health to be there when we want it to be. We need to be “In the Game”. Health is something that needs to be developed, cared for and maintained. It takes effort, time and sacrifice. Is it worth it? Few things determine the quality of our lives more than our health. Yet, we have the tendency to neglect abuse and procrastinate when it comes to taking care of ourselves.
Why?... Well, the reasons are many, but we find that a common one is that patients have grown up in the medical model that promotes waiting until you get sick, until you’ve lost your health, before we address it. Yes, it’s true, medical care can accomplish some amazing things, but the bottom line is:
Medical care is designed to Treat Illness, not Prevent and Maintain health. That is a huge difference.
Waiting until you lose your health to address it is like waiting until your car seizes up before you change the oil.
If you’ve been experiencing more frequent illnesses than you would like, maybe it’s time for a change. A shift in your healthcare approach.
Health needs to be maintained if we want to experience the benefits that go along with that. So, it starts with our approach, our mindset, our focus, our intent to achieve and maintain a better health level or… Neglect our health, take it for granted and deal with it when it’s gone? If it’s the former, we need to Take Steps to Care for our Health to avoid losing it. So, you see, it’s a conscious choice with benefits or consequences.
So, what can we do to take care of and maintain a better health level?
I recommend a varied and balanced approach to health maintenance. It means you need to combine the building blocks of proper exercise, diet/nutrition and rest as well as proper spinal alignment to reach and maintain your personal, ultimate health level and physical and mental well-being. If you are missing just one of these building blocks, your health can be marginalized.
The building block we find most people are least familiar with is the role that Spinal Alignment plays in our health level. A misaligned spine compromises the proper nerve communication between the brain and body systems (i.e. organs, muscles, vascular system and cells, etc.)
An extreme example of this was the tragic accident Christopher Reeves experienced when he fractured his cervical spine, as a result of a horseback riding accident. This caused the nerve supply from his neck down to be severely compromised, resulting in complete paralysis. But think about this for a minute…… not only did Christopher become a quadriplegic; losing all muscle function, His Organs also slowly began to shut down, ultimately resulting in his death. Why? Let me know what you think….
