“It’s nothing like what people used to think!”
That’s what Jean said the first time she stepped through the doors at Edgewood Flandreau and instantly knew she was going to love it here.
Jean’s story comes full circle. For many years, she worked in healthcare like nursing homes, and hospitals as both a housekeeper and an aide. Known for her love of organization and her caring heart, she spent much of her life supporting others in senior care. After experiencing firsthand what it’s like to work in communities like this, Jean made the decision to call Edgewood her own home. That kind of trust speaks volumes.
“It felt like home.” What Jean cherishes most is the feeling of Edgewood. She remembers a Christmas she spent here during a bad winter storm. Instead of feeling lonely, she felt wrapped in warmth as residents gathered in the living room, opening Secret Santa gifts and celebrating together like family. Jean has experienced her own transformation. She’s come out of her depression, found the right balance with her medications, and rediscovered what it feels like to truly feel good. “It’s been a while since I felt good.”
From senior care worker to Edgewood resident, Jean has lived both sides; and she’ll tell you, “You’ll love it here. That’s all I can say, because I love it here.” We are Edgewood.
