Microneedling is one of my favorite treatments for aging skin⌠but not all microneedling is created equal.
I often have patients come in after trying at-home microneedling and feeling confused about why theyâre not seeing the kind of results they expected.
Hereâs the difference:
At-home microneedling devices are designed to be superficial. They can help with product absorption and give a temporary glow, but they donât reach the depth needed to truly stimulate collagen.
Thereâs also a difference in the quality and precision of the needles themselves.
In a clinical setting, we use sterile, single-use needle cartridges with very fine, uniform needles designed to create controlled, consistent microchannels in the skin.
At-home devices often vary in needle quality and consistency, which can impact both results and how the skin responds.
In-clinic microneedling is entirely different.
Weâre able to safely reach deeper layers of the skin where real remodeling happens improving:
⢠Fine lines + wrinkles
⢠Skin texture
⢠Acne scarring
⢠Overall firmness and quality
Treatments are performed using aseptic technique to protect your skin barrier and reduce risk, and everything is customized based on your skin, your goals, and what your skin can safely tolerate.
Youâre also guided through the entire process, from proper pre-care to post-treatment healing, so youâre never left wondering if what youâre experiencing is normal.
So itâs not that at-home microneedling is âbad,â itâs just not a replacement for medical-grade treatments, precision tools, or professional guidance.
If youâve been trying it at home and not seeing the results you expected, or just feeling unsure along the way this is usually why.
If youâre curious whether microneedling is right for your skin, Iâm always happy to guide you đ¤
