Some say “sitting is the new smoking” 🚬
That statement may be an exaggeration, but it does bring up a good point when it comes to your lower back pain.
In today’s world, prolonged sitting can be unavoidable for many folks.
In my experience, prolonged sitting can be an absolute killer for those with lower back pain. One reason is if you’re not actively strengthening your back muscles, prolonged sitting will just lead to weakness.
Perhaps even more importantly, prolonged sitting can lead to increased tension of the psoas muscles, also known as your hip flexors.
Don’t let the term “hip flexors” fool you though. These muscles have direct attachments to not only your lumbar spine, but also to the discs in between the bones of your lumbar spine.
When the psoas muscles get tight, it can lead to abnormal strain on your lower back. Eliminating this tension is a critical part of overcoming lower back pain.
One way to do this is by dry needling from a side approach to directly hit those psoas muscles.
When you get a needle into a tight psoas muscle, it can produce a deep achy sensation in to the hip. That’s normal when you are stretching a tight muscle. You’ll have to endure some achy sensations during the treatment, but the results of decreased pain and increased mobility will typically occur right after treatment.
This is actually a treatment I’ve had done to myself and every time I’ve done it, I’ve had immediate improvement. I’m always happy I toughed out the achy sensation because on the other side of it was my pain relief.
Keep in mind, dry needling is just one piece of the puzzle. But don’t worry, I’ll fill you in on some simple exercises to supplement the dry needling when you are here.
Purchase a 3-pack of treatments for just $150 when you call to schedule.
