February might be short… but the progress we saw was anything but! 💬❄️

This month in speech therapy we celebrated:
🗣️ First sounds turning into first words
📚 Storytelling skills growing stronger
😁 Confidence shining during conversations
👅 Tongues, lips, and jaws getting stronger every session

Speech therapy isn’t just about talking — it’s about being understood, building confidence, and helping our clients share who they are with the world. And THAT is something worth celebrating. ❤️

We’re heading into March feeling proud, motivated, and ready for even more breakthroughs ahead!

If you’re on this journey with us — keep going.
If you’re thinking about starting — we’d love to support you.

It’s time to spread awareness about ALS following the recent news involving Eric Dane.

ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that impacts the motor neurons responsible for voluntary muscle movement. While many people recognize its effects on mobility, fewer realize the significant impact it has on communication and swallowing.

From an SLP perspective, ALS may affect:

• Speech clarity (dysarthria)
• Voice strength and breath support
• Rate and intelligibility of speech
• Swallow safety (dysphagia)
• Fatigue during communication

As the disease progresses, individuals may require:

• Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC) devices
• Voice banking/message banking
• Swallowing interventions for safety and nutrition
• Caregiver training for communication support

Raising awareness matters — not only for research and funding, but for ensuring individuals living with ALS have access to multidisciplinary care, including speech therapy, to preserve quality of life for as long as possible.

Sending support to Eric Dane’s family and all individuals and their families navigating ALS. 💙

Big advocacy win for our field and the patients we serve! 👏🗣️

Medicare telehealth authority for Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology has officially been extended through December 31, 2027 — and we couldn’t be more grateful.

This means we can continue providing high-quality, accessible care to our elderly patients who benefit from services delivered right in the comfort and safety of their homes. Telehealth has allowed us to:

• Maintain continuity of care• Reduce travel and mobility barriers• Support medically fragile patients• Keep families involved in the therapy process

We’re proud to continue showing up for our seniors — ensuring they have access to the communication, cognitive, and swallowing support they deserve. 💙

Thank you to everyone who continues to advocate for patient access and provider sustainability. The work matters!

Mother nature is full of surprises - despite HCPS being closed today, we still plan to be open. If your road is too icy, please reach out and see about switching to a virtual appointment. We want to keep our staff and families safe!

❄️ Snow Day = Language Play Day! ❄️

School may be closed, but language learning doesn’t have to be ☃️💬

Stuck inside? Here are simple, stress-free ways to build speech & language at home using what you already have:

🧱 Build & Talk
Stack blocks or Legos and model phrases like:
👉 “I want blue.”
👉 “Put it on.”
👉 “I made a tower!”

🍎 Snack Time = Talk Time
Offer choices instead of yes/no:
👉 “Apple or cracker?”
👉 “I want more please.”

🎲 Play What They Love
Cars, dolls, puzzles, games — follow their lead and narrate:
👉 “Go fast!”
👉 “My turn!”
👉 “It fell down!”

📚 Read & Repeat
Pause during books and model short phrases for them to copy — no pressure, just exposure!

✨ Remember: language grows best through connection, repetition, and play — not worksheets.

Stay warm, stay safe, and keep the talking going 💙
