NAMI Genesee County

NAMI Genesee County NAMI Genesee is dedicated to improving the quality of life for persons and their families affected by mental illness. Depression is a mental illness.

NAMI strives to achieve its misson through support, education, advocacy and research. Serving Genesee, Saginaw and surrounding counties If you, or someone in your family, struggle with a mental health issue the Genesee County chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness is your link to recovery. First, let's get passed the stigma of the words, "mental illness." The face of mental illness is

not unclean, unkempt, or homeless. Of course, it CAN be those things but, more often than not, it's much less recognizable.

• Mental illness hides behind the smile of the pretty college coed who, at 98 pounds, thinks she's fat. Anorexia is a mental illness.
• Mental illness lives in the mind of the businessman whose paranoia, delusions, and imagined sights and sounds confuse and scare his family. Schizophrenia is a mental illness.
• Mental illness is what causes the talented, handsome, funny, high school quarterback to commit su***de. Second, as your local resource, NAMI Genesee County exists to help you build a better life for yourself or your family. Through donations, NAMI Genesee County offers you monthly support groups, classes, and speaker programs at a local level. Additionally, our national organization offers virtual programs where you can participate online as little, or as much, as you're comfortable. Founded in 1983, NAMI Genesee County is a family-support organization giving hope and help to local families through education, support, advocacy, and cooperation with other local groups. The best mental health crisis response is a local one. NAMI advocates provided more than half of all comments the Federal Communications Commission received during last month's comment period, urging quick action to ensure calls to 988 are routed to local call centers while protecting callers’ personal information.
