A great reminder for the holidays!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

The holidays tend to pull us in every direction at once. Schedules get tight, emotions run high, and it’s easy to slip into “just push through” mode. Reember, you’re allowed to take care of yourself, too.

Step outside for a breath of cold air. Take ten quiet minutes in the car before going inside. Set one small boundary. Say no to something you genuinely don’t have room for. Make a cup of tea and drink it slowly.

Self-care doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive. It’s the small moments that help your nervous system settle and let you come back to yourself. As the season gets busy, give yourself permission to pace things in a way your mind and body can handle. Your wellbeing matters just as much as everything you’re trying to show up for.

Today we explored vessels, and how they can be symbolic of ourselves. Imperfections and experiences that mold us into who we are today.

Join us for our Shaping the Self: Clay, Symbol, and Story Workshop, as part of the Art of Healing Series.

During this session, we will be working with clay as we explore the concept of self through symbolism. Each 'imperfect' form becomes a personal vessel- representing how our unique experiences, challenges, and strengths shape who we are.

30 min - Gallery Walk/Discussion

90 min - Art Making

This workshop is part of a string of workshops that explores the art of healing through medical art, symbols, and creativity. This workshop is for anyone touched by cancer. No previous art experience is needed. You do not need to partake in the 2026 art show to participate.

From Senator John Cherry:

Painting Hope in Grand Blanc

Earlier this week, our Flint office welcomed the organizers of Grand Blanc Strong – Painting Hope, a community art therapy event created in response to the tragic attack at the LDS Church in Grand Blanc on September 28. Art therapists Erin Simonetti and Jennifer Tackett, with support from local partners, brought residents together to paint wooden stars carrying messages of hope and healing. These stars have been shared with first responders, families, and community spaces as a symbol of unity and resilience.

During their visit, Jennifer gifted us several of these stars, and we are honored to display them in our Flint and Lansing offices. Each star is a powerful reminder that even in the darkest times, hope shines brightest when a community comes together. With plans to bring Painting Hope into Grand Blanc schools, their work continues — adding hundreds more stars to spread light and encouragement throughout the community.

We are grateful for their creativity and compassion and proud to stand alongside Grand Blanc as healing continues.

Today we reflecting on what has been occupying our minds lately, and what we would like to let go of.

“When the Trees Let Go”

The trees don’t mourn
when their leaves turn loose.
They shimmer in surrender—
gold, rust, flame—
and trust the wind
to take what’s ready to go.

No pleading,
no holding on
to what was once green.

They stand bare and honest,
bones to the sky,
and wait—
patient as wisdom—
for the quiet promise
beneath the soil to stir again.

Maybe we, too,
are meant to fall apart
a little each autumn,
to let go of what’s finished,
so something tender
can find room to grow.”
