There are many ways to support friends or family members who are survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault. Listening, providing information on support services, and respecting their decisions are all great options to show a survivor that you care.

All survivors are different, so what works for one person might not work for someone else. If you're not sure how you can help, contact your local service provider for additional support. Advocates can help you navigate supporting survivors and vicarious trauma (the trauma experienced from indirect exposure to trauma, such as listening to survivor stories and providing emotional support). NASW-Michigan condemns the act of violence that occurred today at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield and stands in solidarity with Michigan’s Jewish community. While we are grateful that children and staff were not physically harmed, incidents like this leave lasting trauma and reinforce the fear that many communities face simply for gathering in spaces of faith and belonging. Hate, antisemitism, and violence have no place in our communities, and everyone deserves to feel safe where they worship, learn, and live.

Community Connect is back!
Mondays, 4:30pm - 5:30pm | Starting Jan. 26th, Weekly
An in-person, weekly support group that is focused on building community and fostering connections with fellow survivors. Conversation will be focused on the needs and interests of group members with topics prepared as needed.
