3 Letters - GSW. Anytime we see these letters, it means we're seeing a child with 1+ gun shot wounds. The recovery process is often brutal and the consequences often lifelong...when kids survive.

Adults - WE are responsible. WE have the capacity to prevent this. PLEASE restrict access to weapons - lock them up, keep ammo separate, or rid your home of them altogether.

Why? Gun violence and GSWs are PREVENTABLE! Kids do not know better. Kids are curious. Kids know every hiding spot in your house, so if there's a gun "hidden" away but not locked up, they know about it. Kids are semi-logical in reasoning at best. Kids make mistakes. We put toy versions of the real thing in their hands from toddler years - of course the black shiny ones look cool.

Let’s stay safe, honor our active military and vets, and protect our future this memorial weekend and beyond!

It’s mental health awareness month and I promise you- there is a provider out there who is exactly what your child or family needs.
Psychologists come in all shapes, colors, genders, ages, races, abilities, sizes…and then some. And that doesn’t even include the many brilliant social workers, NPs, psychiatrists, adolescent medicine doctors, child life specialists, techs, developmental-behavioral pediatricians, and others making up the behavioral health workforce in our country.
We are fierce protectors of your truth.
We will take you to the next level or get you to ground level - whatever you need.
We will advocate for equity, justice, and inclusion alongside you. We will empower you.
And we too are not immune to the challenges of life…in fact we may be the most acutely aware of them.
Hug the mental health providers in your life a little tighter this month, then go see yours for a tune up!

Trainee learning pearl: 1+1=2…until it doesn’t. Then it’s on us to seek more data until it does from our patients, caregivers, teammates, what we see, medical records, etc.
Trust your gut (aka clinical judgement and pattern recognition) when it doesn’t add up. Be curious.
Investigate.
It’s how you improve & save lives, one child at a time.
