Reiki is a holistic treatment that can assist with stress, anxiety, pain, and clears and balances energy centers. Reiki is an integrative modality that is offered in over 60 major USA hospitals and medical institutions. These include Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Columbia Presbyterian, Cleveland Clinic, Brigham and Young, MASS general, Yale Cancer Center and more. I use my RN training and experie
nce as well as my knowledge of Eastern medicine during a session. Holistic modalities are wonderful compliments to Allopathic or traditional Western medicine. I find that Reiki works well with stress, anxiety, and pain. It can give one an overall sense of balance, clarity, and calmness. Reiki can help you move from a sympathetic nervous system response, or fight or flight, into a parasympathetic response, or a more relaxed state. Sympathetic activation prepares us for fight or flight, while parasympathetic activation is associated with normal functioning under relaxed conditions. Eastern medicine is based on an energy or life force that exists within every living thing. It is called Prana, Chi, or Ki. Every person and everything is made up of energy--atoms. Each cell pulses electrically and the body has an electromagnetic field. I work with the body's energy centers and in the energy fields. By re-aligning and re-balancing these fields, you place the person or animal back into a homeostatic balance. When the body is in balance, it has great potential to assist in healing itself. Let’s talk about curing vs healing. It is best described in the book 'The Subtle Body' by Cindi Dale. " Curing and healing are very different concepts. To cure is to erase symptoms. To heal is to assure a state of wholeness. A whole person is whole despite a missing leg, a flu bug.... A healer is essentially someone who helps another person realize his or her inherent wholeness, regardless of appearances or the outcome of treatment." Reiki energy goes where it is needed the most, or where the person needs to be healed first. Your healing can be emotional, spiritual, or physical. Does this mean you should stop seeing your doctor? Or not go to the ER if you are in a crisis? Or stop taking medicine prescribed by your physicians? Holistic modalities and Reiki DO NOT replace seeing your regular physicians. I do not recommend discontinuing any treatments or medications that your doctors prescribe. I hope this summary has provided you with enough information to allow you to make a decision regarding Reiki treatments.
