Did you know your baby doesn’t fully realize they’re their own person until around 6–7 months old?
In those early months, your little one truly experiences the world as though they’re part of you. They depend on your presence for comfort, nourishment, and security.
As they grow, they begin to understand that you and they are separate — a beautiful milestone that brings both independence and new emotions.
This awareness often leads to separation anxiety. Your baby may cry or reach for you when you step away — even for a moment. While it can be hard to see, this is actually a sign of healthy attachment. It means your baby feels safe and connected to you.
Supporting your baby through this stage:
✨ Respond consistently — calm, predictable care builds trust.
✨ Offer comfort and reassurance — your touch and voice remind them they’re safe.
✨ Encourage gentle independence — security gives them confidence to explore.
Every cuddle, smile, and soothing word helps your baby build the emotional foundation they need to thrive.
You don’t need to do it perfectly — your love is more than enough.
As a doula, I love reminding parents that connection, not perfection, is what babies need most. 💞
