Just a friendly reminder all of our local snowbirds getting ready to leave to their warmer locations for winter, please stop in for a free clean and check of your hearing aids prior to traveling. We can make sure you have plenty of supplies and verify everything is working properly. 🌊 - 🏜

Just a reminder we will always take old, donated even broken hearing aids for the local Lions Club if you can't make it to this event!

â™» Save the date of Saturday, August 16, from 10 am until 2 pm for the 2025 Black & White Recycling Event! â™»

Want to dispose of propane tanks, mattresses, tires, block foam, household goods, eye wear, hearing aids, unopened food, or leftover paint and building materials? And, you don’t want to run all over town? The City of Florence Environmental Management Advisory Committee has organized this “one stop” drop event!

Residents can drop off items at the Siuslaw Middle School south parking lot with entrances on 27th and Oak Streets. Volunteers and staff are available to help you unload your vehicles and trailers.

The Black and White Recycling Event was named because it enables city residents to get rid of unwanted black tires, white propane tanks and historically white appliances FREE of charge.

County Transfer and Recycling will be loading and transporting these items with size and quantity limitations.

This year, there will be other organizations joining the community collection event to provide additional FREE disposal opportunities.
- St. Vincent de Paul of Lane County will be collecting mattresses, block styrofoam and household items for reuse. They can also take appliances that can be refurbished.
- Habitat for Humanity ReStore Florence will be collecting paint (in original container with secure lid) and reusable construction materials.
- Lions Club of Florence will be collecting eyeglasses and hearing aids.

There will also be a Bake Sale sponsored by the student class from Inspire Culinary Academy.

Lane County Emergency Management will conduct a test of the subscriber-based local emergency alert system – Lane Alerts – on Wednesday, May 21, at 1:15 p.m. This test will include emails, recorded voice calls, and text messages, depending on each subscriber’s provided contact information.

Residents are encouraged to visit www.LaneAlerts.org to create a free Lane Alerts account and choose their preferred methods of receiving emergency alerts.

Lane Alerts allows subscribers to opt-in for notifications via phone call, text message, and email, based on the locations they care about. At minimum, subscribers must provide their name and one method of contact. Multiple addresses can be added to receive notifications about emergency events that may affect their home, workplace, child’s school, and more. Types of emergencies covered include evacuations, severe weather, flooding, police activity, and other critical events.
