🩵October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month🩷
Which makes it especially meaningful that this month, several of us at Shoals Sav-A-Life had the privilege of meeting Mr. John Sworm. At 92 years old and still actively serving the community, he came by to help replace a crepe myrtle tree at the Hope Memorial.
The Hope Memorial (photos below from Mr. Sworm) was originally donated to SSAL by Center Star First Baptist Church. With John’s help and the support of others, it now stands in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens on Florence Boulevard as a place for healing and remembrance.
The life-sized bronze statue depicts Jesus holding a child with a woman sitting beside Him:
👼The child represents any little one who has passed away, whether from miscarriage, stillbirth, illness, accidental death, or other causes. Or a child who has been chosen through adoption.
👩🦰The woman represents any mother who has experienced the loss of a child before or after birth, felt regret after a terminated pregnancy, or given the gift of life through adoption, and finds hope in Jesus taking care of them all.
This site welcomes anyone seeking a place of comfort, hope, or quiet reflection. Memorial stones are available for purchase, but are never required to visit.
John Sworm told us how proud he is of this beautiful spot. Seeing the name “Kelly Sworm” etched among the stones shines a new light on his heart and purpose behind it. Kelly was his beloved daughter who passed away at just 6 months old.
We are so grateful to Mr. Sworm for his many years of service and support to SSAL, and to everyone who has helped make the Hope Memorial a special place. We invite you to visit and experience this peaceful space for yourself!
