📢 What Is a Prior Authorization (PA)?
We often get questions about prior authorizations, so we wanted to explain how they work.
A Prior Authorization (PA) is a requirement from your insurance company, not your doctor’s office. It means the insurance company requires additional information before they decide whether they will cover a medication, test, or treatment.
Here’s how the process usually works:
1️⃣ Your provider prescribes a medication or treatment.
2️⃣ Your insurance company may require a prior authorization before they will pay for it.
3️⃣ Our office submits medical records and documentation showing why the treatment is medically necessary.
4️⃣ The insurance company reviews the information and decides to approve or deny coverage.
⏳ Unfortunately, this process can take several days to a few weeks, depending on the insurance company.
Please know our staff works hard to submit these requests as quickly as possible, but the final decision and timeline are controlled by your insurance provider.
