We get this A LOT!!! Trauma can look like so many other things and so it’s very important for folks to be evaluated by a qualified mental health professional to assess all symptoms & formulate a correct diagnosis. Unfortunately, it’s just not that easy in our field and can be challenging to diagnose symptoms appropriately due to overlapping symptoms and our flawed classification system. •Practice healthy coping✅ & ditch those unhealthy ones❎
•Exercise 🕺🏃‍♂️‍➡️🏋️‍♂️⛹️‍♀️🏌️‍♂️🤾‍♂️🤸🧘🏻‍♀️helps!
•Sleep 😴 is important!
•Eat nutritious, healthy foods 🍎🍇🍳🥑🥦
•Decrease your stress 🤯 (if possible)
•No drugs or alcohol ❌🍻❌ (this would be an unhealthy way to cope)
•Call/text 🗣️📱 a friend, family member or your significant other
•Vocal toning can be a great way to open up to social engagement-try making “mmm” sounds, change the pitch & volume until you feel a pleasant vibration in your face 🙃
•Be social 👫 (even if you don’t feel like it, isolating can make you feel worse)
•Rhythmic exercise where you move both your arms and legs (walking 🚶‍♀️‍➡️running🏃‍♀️ swimming 🏊‍♀️ dancing 💃 are great options)
•Self-compassion 💕work, where you’re being kind to yourself like you would a good friend
•Name 3 things 📝 you’re grateful for everyday for at least a week
•Write ✏️ 📒 about how you feel in a journal to express difficult emotions
•Go to therapy 🛋️ to learn more ways to heal❤️‍🩹 and recover from traumag

🌟 Emotional & psychological symptoms of trauma include:
-shock, denial, or disbelief
-confusion, difficulty concentrating
-anger/rage, irritability, mood swings
-anxiety & fear
-guilt, shame, self-blame
-withdrawal & isolation from others
-feeling sad or hopeless
-feeling disconnected or numb
-dissociation
-regression of behavior (children)

🌟 Physical symptoms of trauma include:
-insomnia or nightmares
-fatigue
-being startled easily
-difficulty concentrating
-racing heartbeat
-edginess & agitation
-aches & pains
-muscle tension
-nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
-frequent headaches
-appetite disturbance

🌟 When to seek help from a professional:
-having trouble functioning at home, work or school
-suffering from severe fear, anxiety or depression
-experiencing terrifying memories, nightmares or flashbacks
-avoiding people, places or anything that reminds you of the trauma
-emotionally numb & disconnected from others
-dissociating
-using alcohol or drugs to feel better
