😔 Depression is hard…it makes you NOT want to do anything and when we do nothing, guess what? We stay stuck.

✨The key to fighting depression is to DO something…even when we don’t feel like it. Especially when we don’t feel like it…because that’s when shifts begin to happen.

😔 We stay stuck when we isolate, stay in bed, quit showering and doing the things we have little to no motivation to do.

✨Try some of these coping skills for depression to pull you out of the funk:
✔️Be around people-family, friends, even if that means grabbing a coffee or chatting for at least 30 minutes.
✔️Get out in nature or move your body even if that means just 15 minutes at a time, once you hit that try for 30 minutes. This will boost the chemicals in your brain acting as a natural antidepressant.
✔️Make a list of small attainable goals to knock off your to-do list. This will give you a sense of accomplishment.
✔️Gratitude practice-name 5 things you are grateful/thankful for. Do this daily for 1 week and see if you can name something new each day. If you can get up to 10-even better!

✨Again, the key is to DO something…even for just a short period of time so you can feel better.

😔If these tips don’t work for you and you’re symptoms have been going on for longer than 2 weeks, it may be helpful for you to speak to a professional.

✨Counseling can help you learn more tips to deal with your symptoms and help you to get on the path to feeling better.

📞 Reach out to us if you want to take that next step 859-628-0702 or Positivelyspeakingcounseling.com

🤔 Did you know that Major Depression is one of the most common mental health issues in the United States?

~According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) in 2021:

💚 An estimated 21 million adults in the US had at least one major depressive episode. That’s 8.3% of the US adult population.

💚The prevalence of a major depressive episode for females is higher (10.3%) than for males (6.2%).

💚 The prevalence of adults with a major depressive episode was highest among individuals ages 18 to 25 (18.6%).

💚An estimated 5 million adolescents in the US had at least one major depressive episode. That’s 20.1% of US adolescents ages 12 to 17.

💚The prevalence of adolescents with a major depressive episode was higher for adolescent females (29.2%) compared to males (11.5%).

💚 For some individuals, major depression can result in severe impairments that interfere with or limit one’s ability to carry out major life activities.

~If you’re experiencing symptoms of depression that have lasted longer than 2 weeks, please reach out for help.

~You do not have to do this alone. We would be more than happy to assist you with your counseling needs.

•There is so much power in breaking the silence when it comes to mental health struggles.

•When we break our silence and speak our truths, we create space for healing ~ for ourselves and for others.

•Healing ❤️‍🩹 begins when we no longer carry it alone.

•Break the silence. Consider sharing your story with a friend, family member, someone you trust or a mental health professional.

💚This month (May is Mental Health Awareness Month) and every month, we share information on mental health in an effort to reduce stigma and remove barriers in seeking mental health support. This info from NAMI helps reinforce connection.

💬When we say “I’m fine,” when we really aren’t fine, this may give the impression to others that we really are ok. When this isn’t in alignment with how we truly feel, it creates dissonance within us and we continue to suffer silently and alone.

💭When we think “no one will understand,” we are accidentally not even giving folks an opportunity to understand.

💭When we think “I don’t want to be a burden,” we are automatically assuming we are a burden without even giving our support system the option to say otherwise.

🤔All of these things create more isolation and suffering alone BUT what if we made a different choice?

🤔 What if we shared our story and were brave enough to say, “you know what, I’m just not ok.”

🤗That brave act, to be honest and share how we really are feeling under the surface has the power to bring connection, community and healing.

That’s what it’s all about!
✔️You do NOT have to suffer in silence.
✔️You are NOT a burden.
✔️ You do NOT have to do this alone.

💚We have mental health professionals who get it. We can help by walking alongside you, understanding your experience and teaching you ways to improve your mental health.

☎️ 859-628-0702 or reach out through our website at Positivelyspeakingcounseling.com to get started!
