See the preliminary results of the election below. 👇

Thank you to everyone who voted in Tuesday's Regular Election of the Florence Fire Protection District.

Based on the preliminary results published by the District, Terry Williams, Dana Angel, and Josh Talbot are projected to secure 4-year terms while John Wysong is expected to win a 2-year term.

Since UOCAVA ballots can be accepted until May 14, the results are considered "preliminary" or "abstract" until they are certified on or before May 20. Copies of the results have been posted on the front door of the Penrose and Florence fire stations where they will remain for the next 48 hours.

The district board meeting that is scheduled for Tuesday, May 6th, 2025 will now be held on Monday, May 5th, 2025 at 7:00pm due to the district board election on May 6th.

Wind driven snow will spread into the mountains Thursday afternoon through Friday morning. The heaviest snow will impact the eastern San Juan mountains including Wolf Creek Pass, but travel impacts from wind driven snow could impact Monarch and La Veta Passes as well. Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories have been posted. Please check road conditions at cotrip.org if you have travel plans into the mountains.

HIGH FIRE DANGER is expected for Thursday across the southeast plains due to a combination of gusty winds, low relative humidity and dry vegetation. Please use caution to avoid starting wild fires!

A strong spring storm will spread snow into the Continental Divide and High Fire Danger across the southeast plains on Thursday. Strong north winds will intensify on Friday as the storm crosses the Rockies, bringing the potential for damaging gusts and a brief period of rain and/or snow for the Southeast plains. Please monitor the forecasts closely. Details on each weather risk will follow in later posts.

High Wind Watches have been posted for the eastern plains on Fri with the potential for north winds gusting up to 65 mph. Dangerous cross winds will be likely on E-W roads. Changes in how quickly the storm strengthens as it crosses the mountains could expand the high wind risk area further. Please monitor the forecasts closely.
