Pharmacy Fact: Pharmacists Are THE Medication Experts

They understand the chemical makeup of your medications and how they interact with your body to do their job effectively. But their expertise goes far beyond just dispensing pills.

Medication Adherence Matters:

Taking your meds exactly as prescribed is crucial for them to work properly. Missed doses or incorrect timing can reduce effectiveness or even cause harm. Pharmacists can help you stay on track with reminders, Never-Miss-A-Dose packaging solutions, and personalized advice.

Watch for Nutrient Depletion:

Some medications like statins, diuretics, and acid reducers can deplete essential vitamins and minerals over time. Pharmacists can identify these risks and recommend supplements or dietary changes to keep you feeling your best.
So if you have questions about your meds, side effects, or how they might affect your nutrition, ask our pharmacists. They are here to help you stay healthy and informed!

Myth: Natural means safe.
Truth: Even herbal supplements can interact with prescriptions.

Herbal supplements like St. John's Wort or garlic may seem harmless, but they can interfere with medications - reducing effectiveness or causing side effects. Always check with your healthcare providers before mixing remedies.

Hand Sanitizer vs. Soap: Which is better for preventing seasonal bugs?

When it comes to preventing seasonal illnesses like colds, flu, and stomach viruses, soap and water are the clear winners.

Why Soap Is Better:
- Soap physically removes germs from your skin by breaking down the sticky bonds that hold them in place. This means viruses and bacteria slide off your hands entirely.
- Hand sanitizer kills many germs, but it doesn't remove dirt, grease, or certain pathogens like norovirus and Clostridium difficile.
- Cold-weather illnesses often spread via surface contact, and thorough handwashing is more effective at stopping transmission.

When to Use Hand Sanitizer:
- Use it only when soap and water aren't available.
- Make sure it contains at least 60% alcohol for it to be effective.
