Dear Primary Pediatric families,

After more than a decade of dedicated care, compassion, and countless hugs, our wonderful Nurse Practitioner Amanda Race is spreading her wings and stepping into the world of adult medicine.

Mandy has been a cornerstone of our pediatric family, bringing comfort to nervous little ones and building lasting relationships with families over the years. While we are sad to see her go, we’re so proud of her as she takes on this exciting new chapter!

Please join us in thanking Mandy for her many years of service and in wishing her all the best on this new journey.

Her last day at Primary Pediatrics will be October 17.

🦷 Fluoride = Stronger Smiles!
Fluoride is a natural mineral that helps prevent cavities by strengthening your child’s tooth enamel and making it more resistant to decay. It’s safe, effective, and one of the best ways to keep little smiles healthy!

You should use a rice grain amount of fluoride toothpaste until the age of 5 years old. When child can reliably spit, you can increase to a pea sized amount of fluoride toothpaste.

Protecting teeth early sets the foundation for a lifetime!

🚨 Measles Cases Rising in Kentucky – What Parents Need to Know

We’re seeing a rise in measles cases in Kentucky, with 13 confirmed cases so far. Most recently a case confirmed in Louisville. Measles is highly contagious and can be serious, especially for young children. Measles can also cause fatal brain disorder years after infection called Subacute Sclerosing Panencephalitis (SSPE).

💉 We are offering early MMR-V boosters for children who already received their first dose. If it’s been at least 3 months since their first MMR-V, they can get their second dose now. This booster counts as the regular 4-year-old vaccine, so there’s no need to repeat it later.

Protecting our kids and community is a team effort. Call our office to check your child’s vaccine records or schedule a booster especially if you will be traveling.

💦 Staying hydrated is essential during the hot summer months! Here's how to keep your kids hydrated:

1️⃣ Offer water regularly, even if they're not thirsty.
2️⃣ Encourage them to drink water before, during, and after physical activities.
3️⃣ Avoid sugary drinks like soda or juices – water is always the best choice!
4️⃣ Include water-rich foods like watermelon, cucumbers, and oranges in their meals.

REMEMBER: Infants under 6 months of age should not be given plain water. They may need more breastmilk or formula when exposed to the summer heat! It is expected that infants are having a wet diaper at least every 6 hours and toddlers/kids are urinating at least every 8 hours during daytime hours!

On hot days, water sitting in a garden hose can heat up to dangerous temperatures. Even hot enough to cause serious burns, especially to children!

🔥In just minutes under the sun, hose water can reach 130°F+🔥

ALWAYS run the hose for several seconds to flush out hot water before using it!
