Being competitive and being hard on yourself are NOT the same thing.
Wanting to improve, chasing growth, taking feedback, and holding yourself to a high standard is part of being an athlete.
Constantly tearing yourself apart, attaching your worth to placings, and thinking you don’t belong every time you lose is not “competitive” — it’s self-destruction disguised as discipline.
As a coach, I can promise you this: The athletes that last in this sport are not the ones mentally destroying themselves after every setback. They’re the ones who can stay objective, learn from the feedback, adjust, and keep moving forward.
You are not going to win every show. You are not always going to be the best on stage. That does NOT mean you suddenly don’t belong there.
This sport should build mental strength, not destroy your self-worth.
There’s a difference between being driven… and being at war with yourself all the time. 👏🏼
