Peggy Skudera, Volunteer Manager at McLeod Health Seacoast, relocated to Little River in 2017. A few years later, she would receive a frightening breast cancer diagnosis. This diagnosis led her to make a generous commitment to the Hope and Healing Campaign supporting the McLeod Center for Cancer Treatment and Research in Horry County.

The HOPE (Helping Oncology Patients Everyday) Fund is a unique patient assistance fund designed to identify each patient’s personal struggles and respond immediately with assistance.

We are thrilled to share that at the Shriners’ Annual Conference in Myrtle Beach, The Desert of South Carolina Chapter presented two $1,000 checks to the McLeod Foundation to support both cancer services and diabetes care at McLeod Health Seacoast. The McLeod Fellows Class toured the Hospice House for their April meeting. They heard from Dr. Vipul Shah, Medical Director, McLeod Hospice and Palliative Care; and Corlie Burr, Administrator, McLeod Hospice.

Perry Griffith, Department Coordinator, spoke about the Butterfly Fund and showed them the Butterfly Cart available for patients and families. They also toured the Hospice House Garden.

McLeod Fellows is a program of the McLeod Foundation that provides a behind-the-scenes view of healthcare at McLeod to create ambassadors for the medical center.
