For their March meeting, the McLeod Fellows Class heard about the McLeod Health Strategic Plan from Lesli McGee, Chief Strategy Officer and Senior Vice President of Continuum of Care at McLeod Health.

Members also heard from Dr. Tripp Hines, a neurosurgeon with Florence Neurosurgery and Spine, about Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery for patients with Parkinson’s disease or essential tremor.

McLeod Regional Medical Center neurologist Dr. Ravish Kothari, along with Stroke Coordinator Mitzi Myers, spoke to the group about the prevalence of stroke in our region, as well as the signs and symptoms.

Thanks to Simeon B. Chapin, who established the Chapin Foundation in 1943, the quality of life in Myrtle Beach has been greatly enriched. His legacy continues to guide the Foundation today as it partners with organizations like McLeod Health.

This year, the visionary businessman’s legacy is touching the lives of children suffering the effects of disease, injury or disability through a $90,000 grant for pediatric rehabilitation equipment at McLeod Health Carolina Forest’s Pediatric Rehabilitation department.

Chapin’s legacy is evident with the specialized care McLeod provides for children like Enrique “Kiki” Alvarez. He is one of the many beneficiaries of this generous man’s vision of providing access to high quality care for the most vulnerable of Myrtle Beach.

McLeod Health Clarendon recently kicked off McLeod Fellows 2026. Offered in conjunction with the McLeod Foundation, the McLeod Fellows program allows community leaders to join McLeod administrators and physicians for a behind-the-scenes look at health care at McLeod.

The program featured a presentation by the leadership of McLeod Health Clarendon about the continued growth of services and the commitment and investment McLeod Health has made in the Clarendon and Sumter communities. After the presentation, attendees were given a tour of the Medical Surgical Department, ICU, and Women’s Services.
