Birth is not linear.

I often reference birth like a card game; you're dealt a new hand with every stage.

Sometimes it appears to be confusing, impossible & uncertain until new information is given for you to consider. And sometimes, its very straight forward.

Either way, its important to remember a few simple truths:
1. Understand the information at hand, B.R.A.I.N.
2. Connect & sink in to what your body is telling you.
3. You are the legal moral authority, always.

We're not meant to live the journey to Motherhood in isolation.
We are meant to have a community, anchors, our people, and a tribe surrounding us, all playing a part.

The US has very high rates of anxiety & depression and it doesn't surprise me when you acknowledge the medical (dis)function, especially around female health & maternal care.

So often we wonder "What's wrong with me" when we're fed constant, contradictory messages from a capitalist view. Sis, it's not you. We've lost all sense of what is normal and right. Don't spend a single ounce of your precious time downplaying your amazing self. What we need is normalcy, love, care, tenderness, compassion & TIME. This is one of the main reasons my doula services extend throughout the first year of motherhood. And not just on paper, it's not a "schtick" it's REAL. Because I've lived it. And we're not meant to do this alone.
