Nearly every person has some form of postural imbalance; these can occur from driving, sitting at a desk, moving heavy objects, carrying a purse, sleeping in weird positions, etc. Some of us struggle with headaches, others have back pain. Something as simple as a sprained ankle, long since healed, can cause a chain reaction that ends up as chronic low back or shoulder pain... or worse. Even a slight postural distortion, such as the common “forward” (slumped) posture, can result in POUNDS of extra pressure on the neck, spine, and lower back. People often complain of pain and tension in these areas. The muscles form knots in the front and back of the body, trying to stabilize the posture, but the results are not pleasant. Unless these postural problems/pain patterns are corrected, the pain will not go away. Okay, so maybe you aren't sure why I am always talking about posture. Here is a great visual! Most of us tend toward "forward head" posture... all the sitting, driving, studying, texting, looking at computer screens... it's all detrimental to the posture, which affects the whole body.

However, there is more to correcting it than simply "trying to remember to sit up straight" - the muscles in the front of the body become tight after a while, and they hold the head and shoulders forward. Neuromuscular therapy is one of the BEST ways to effectively correct this and many other postural distortions. Come see me for an assessment!
