NewSouth NeuroSpine

NewSouth NeuroSpine Whether you know us as NS2 or NewSouth NeuroSpine...we are Mississippi's Spine Center.
(466)

We understand the need for relief when someone is experiencing back or neck pain. In order to most effectively treat, and ultimately heal the source of your pain we rely on the expertise of our entire team of physicians. Each week we hold a conference during which NewSouth NeuroSpine physicians review complex cases and offer their treatment recommendations for each individual patient. These weekly conferences ensure that each patient benefits from all of our specialists without having to visit each one individually.

Thank you for the beautiful (and very delicious!) cookies! We truly have some of the best patients!

One of our sweet patients recently surprised us with cookies from their daughter’s cookie company as post-surgery thank you to Dr. Moriarity and his team, and it absolutely made our day! Getting to know you and your families throughout this process is one of the sweetest rewards of what we do.

Thank you for trusting us with your care, and thank you, ’s Cookies!🍪✨

Consider this your official excuse to go follow them! Your sweet tooth will thank you!

⭐️New to the NS2 crew!⭐️

We’re so excited to announce that Brian Gates, AGNP, has joined our NS2 Team, working along Dr. VanLandingham in our Surgical Division and Dr. Laseter in Spinal Intervention. His role uniquely bridges both divisions, helping to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients from a comprehensive, start-to-finish perspective while guiding them with both a surgical and non-surgical lens.

A MS Native with Deep Metro Roots
📍 Madison, Mississippi
🎓 Madison Central High School
🎓 Undergraduate at UMMC
🎓 Nurse Practitioner degree from UAB

Brian graduated from UMMC in 2007 and began his career in the Neuro ICU at UMMC. He continued expanding his neurological expertise at Vanderbilt, caring for critically ill neurological patients. He later transitioned into interventional pain as a procedure nurse before earning his NP in 2015. Since 2016, he has spent over 10 years serving the Jackson area and surrounding communities in chronic pain management, working closely with spine and orthopedic specialists.

That’s 19 years as a nurse. 10 years as a nurse practitioner. And a wealth of experience caring for patients during some of their most vulnerable moments.

Why NS2?
Brian is excited by the opportunity to step in earlier in a patient’s journey. At NewSouth NeuroSpine he will be on the front line in treating of patients while continuing to care for many of his long-term patients.
• Assisting in working patients up from a surgical standpoint
• Determining whether conservative treatment can help avoid surgery
• Assisting with interventional procedures and injections
• Guiding patients toward the most appropriate path forward

Why He Chose Nursing
Brian’s first job in medicine was working in surgery as an orderly. He saw firsthand how powerful it is to help people during their hardest moments. Nursing gave him an opportunity to connect with patients personally while guiding them through those times.

Now the Fun Stuff…
🎤 Go-to karaoke: Sweet Caroline (Classic! We approve.)
📺 Currently binging: The Wire
🥩 Favorite local spot: Koestler Prime, filet (Top Tier)
⛳ Big golfer
🏡 Proud dad of three & happily married for 14 years
🥎 Coaches softball
🌙 Night owl
🌮 Tacos over pizza and burgers
🎧 Podcast guy – SubPar & No Laying Up (likes golf so much he listens to it) and sprinkles in The Dale Jr. Download into the mix
🧴 Cannot live without: Chapstick (Can’t blame him here)

Hot take?
“Rudy was offsides.”

And one of his favorite quotes from Mike Tyson🥊
“Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.”

Perhaps the most meaningful advice he’s ever received is rooted in the Serenity Prayer — a lesson that has stayed with him through the years and one he now shares with us and fellow nurses:
"When you’re driving down the interstate, what car can you control? Yours.
Focus on what you can control. Treat what you can treat. Do it well."

We’re so proud to welcome Brian to our NS2 family! Please join us in welcoming him to the team!👏🏼

Rankin County Young Professionals | Maggie Jones

Maggie Jones is currently employed at NewSouth Neurospine. She graduated from Brandon High School and continued her education at the University of Mississippi and then completing her studies at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Outside of work, Maggie enjoys a variety of hobbies, including traveling, antique shopping, and reading.

Her decision to return to Rankin County after completing her education was deeply personal and professional. She credits Rankin County and the Rankin County School District for shaping her into the person she is today. Attending Brandon schools from kindergarten through 12th Grade allowed her to discover her career passion through the BHS Health Science Academy, a program she is grateful for due to the incredible opportunities and experiences it provided. She remains thankful for the top-notch public schools in the county and the opportunities they provide to every student.

Maggie attributes much of her personal growth to the profound impact of Shea Carter. She emphasizes that Shea has pushed and encouraged her through every season of life, demonstrating a uniquely caring and kind heart toward everyone she meets. Maggie feels incredibly fortunate to have Shea in her life. This appreciation for others is reflected in the best piece of advice she has ever received: "Always be kind and empathetic to others, you never know what other people are going through."
