What a blessing it has been to serve families just like the Makamson’s everyday at The Transplant Pharmacy! Thank you for a wonderful 2024 and we look forward to continuing to serve transplant patients and families in 2025!
Our office will be closed tomorrow, New Years Day, so that we may spend time with our families. We will be back Thursday at 8, ready to assist you! If you need anything in the meantime, we always have a pharmacist on call! Thanks again for allowing us to play a small part in your transplant journey.
The holiday season reminds us of the power of family and generosity. For Greenwood farmer Walter Makamson, that power is life-saving.
Walter, a father of four and third-generation farmer in the Mississippi Delta, faced the challenges of polycystic kidney disease for much of his life. By 2022, his kidney function had dropped below 14%, leaving him in dire need of a transplant. Enter his sister, Maggie Gilliland, who selflessly stepped forward as a living donor. Maggie’s kidney was a perfect match.
On June 7, 2022, UMMC’s transplant team, led by Drs. Felicitas Koller and Praise Matemavi, performed the life-changing surgery. Thanks to Maggie’s incredible gift and the care he received at UMMC, Walter is back to farming, raising his kids, and living his life to the fullest. umc.edu/YourHealth
