First of all, when we talk about knee pain we must have a conversation about your hips.

When we look at the muscles of your hip, there is a small one on the front of your hip that creates a lot of problems for your knee. The Tensor Fascia Lata has a long tendon the travels down the side of the leg and attaches just above the knee. We call this tendon the iliotibial tract better known as the

IT BAND.

When our tfl gets tight and overactive it can develop a trigger point. This trigger point can create a pain deep into the hip joint that runs down the outside of the thigh.

If you do a lot of running or walking in the hills or you like to sleep in the fetal position, you may want to try laying on a tennis ball for a couple of minutes to get a release.

This will help you alleviate the tension you feel from having a tfl that is just doing too much!

Big Toe Makes BIG GLUTE!!!

"SAY WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHATTT?!?!?!"

When we walk, jog or run we are supposed to use our glutes to "push" us into our next step. With each step you take, I should see that your stride allows you to extend at the HIP, ANKLE, & KNEE.

FACT: If it DOESN'T allow this, it is more than likely the fault of your BIG TOE.

If your BIG TOE can't extend to allow you to push off, then your ankle, knee, and hip won't want to. It is almost as if the BIG TOE talks to the rest of our body.

You have a BIG PROBLEM if: From a standing or sitting position, you can't actively lift your big toe (without liting the other toes) from the ground with the muscles of your foot. This tells us you don't have the strength.

You have a BIGGER PROBLEM if; You can't bend over and use your fingers to lift your big toe up to about 75 degrees. This tells us you don't have mobility.

The sad thing is that your BRAIN will not care. It will find a new way to move and kind of forget butt does more than give you a cushion to sit on.

Plantar Fasciitis is NOT a foot problem, it's a WEIGHT problem!

As in...

your body is having a hard time passing WEIGHT from:

1. your heel to your toe
2. the outside of your foot to the inside of your foot.

It is the job of our feet to take us places. As they go through the pattern of walking they take on impact at our heel and then shove weight from the outer edge of one foot to the opposite leg.

If....

🀬Our hip and leg muscles can't slow our heel down as it comes in contact with the ground we get PLANTAR FASCIITIS.

🀬Our foot is TOO RIGID (or NOT rigid enough) we get PLANTAR FASCIITIS.

This means plantar fasciitis self-treatment involves more than just a new pair of shoes.
