“While Charlie Brown is best known for his uniquely striped shirt, Linus is associated with an ever-present security blanket. Throughout the history of the Peanuts comic strip, Lucy, Snoopy, Sally and others tried and failed to separate Linus from that blanket.

Even though it remained a major source of ridicule to the otherwise mature and thoughtful Linus, he refused to give it up. Until the moment in "A Charlie Brown Christmas" when he simply dropped it. More specifically, he dropped it right after uttering the words, "Fear not."

Looking at it now, it is pretty clear what Charles Schultz was saying. It's so simple, it's brilliant.

The birth of Jesus separates us from our fears. The birth of Jesus frees us from the habits we ourselves are unable (or unwilling) to break. The birth of Jesus allows us to drop any false security to which we hold so tightly--learning to trust and cling to Christ instead.

The world of 2025 can be a very scary place. It is difficult to "fear not." To compensate, many people grab whatever they can for comfort, no matter the consequences or any subsequent downward spiral.

But in the midst of this fear and insecurity, a simple cartoon image from 1965 continues to live on as an inspiration. True peace and true security can still be found in the one place it has always been: in a real, living relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. "Fear not!"
