Today, Chemistry Rx had the privilege of attending the 4th Annual Pediatric Dermatology Conference at Nationwide Children’s Hospital!

We were thrilled to connect with leading physicians and specialists, sharing insights and discussing our dermatology formulations designed to support rare pediatric conditions. Conferences like these are invaluable opportunities to exchange knowledge, strengthen collaborations, and further our mission of providing personalized treatments that meet the unique needs of each patient.

Palmoplantar keratoderma (PPK) is a group of rare skin conditions characterized by excessive thickening of the palms and soles, frequently leading to discomfort and mobility challenges. PPK is often due to genetic mutations. It can occur isolated, or it can be one of multiple manifestations in patients with a disorder like ichthyosis or epidermolysis bullosa.

At Chemistry Rx, we collaborate with dermatologists to compound formulations customized to a specific patient’s condition and genetic variant, supporting tailored approaches for patients with PPK. Vitiligo is a chronic autoimmune condition that causes areas of skin to lose pigment, leading to lighter patches.

In an open-label pilot study by Mobasher et.al 2020, topical JAK inhibitors showed encouraging results: 13 patients experienced repigmentation, with 4 achieving ≥90% repigmentation.

At Chemistry Rx, we collaborate with dermatologists to provide access to topical JAK inhibitors where appropriate, supporting individualized care for patients with vitiligo.

Warts, for instance on hands and feet, can sometimes be stubborn and resistant to standard therapies. At Chemistry Rx, we work with providers to create custom topical formulations for treatment-resistant warts.

According to a study by Padilla et al., “Topical Cidofovir for Plantar Warts,” topical cidofovir showed positive results in patients with recalcitrant warts. Of 35 patients, 80% showed some degree of response, with more than half achieving complete clearance of lesions.

September is Skin Care Awareness Month! At Chemistry Rx, our focus is helping patients feel comfortable in their own skin. Working with providers, we prepare customized formulations for conditions such as melasma/hyperpigmentation, atopic dermatitis, acne, ichthyosis, vascular anomalies, and more. This month, we’ll highlight both common and rare skin conditions and share how we support providers with compounding solutions and prescriber assistance.

JAK inhibitors like tofacitinib and ruxolitinib are being evaluated in clinical settings as potential therapies for autoimmune-related hair loss, including alopecia areata.

In a study by Bayart et al., topical JAK inhibitors were compounded for pediatric patients with alopecia areata. Four out of six patients experienced some degree of hair regrowth, including scalp, eyebrow, and eyelash regrowth. Responses varied by patient and formulation base, with one patient showing no improvement in a non-liposomal base but achieving full regrowth with a liposomal base. No serious adverse events were reported.

At Chemistry Rx, we support dermatology providers by compounding JAK inhibitor formulations based on prescriber’s specifications and clinical goals.

Scalp dysesthesia can present with burning, tingling, or itching sensations without a visible rash and requires targeted and tailored treatment.

According to the study from Lynch ME et al, topical combination medication for the neuropathic condition was associated with long-term patient satisfaction and was well tolerated with minimal side effects in the treatment of chronic moderate to severe neuropathic pain in a group of 21 subjects in an open-label trial

Here at Chemistry Rx, we offer these formulations in many topical vehicles (e.g., creams, sprays, solutions) that prescribers may utilize when tailoring treatment for neuropathic scalp symptoms.
