Our September Employee of the Month is Kenyada Cottrell! Kenyada has been a part of the SouthernCare team since August 2025 as a Social Worker and has already made a significant impact. When asked about her job she states, "What I love most about working in hospice is meeting so many interesting people. I have learned so much from my patients and their caregivers about what is most important in life." When asked what she thinks everyone should know about hospice, Kenyada said, "Everyone should know that hospice is not about dying, but how one chooses to live at the sunset of their life."
During Kenyada's free time, she enjoy playing with her fur babies, catching up with friends over a good meal, gardening, and watching documentaries
Please join us in congratulating Kenyada for her exceptional dedication and outstanding work with SouthernCare hospice.

SouthernCare Hospice Kicks Off 21st Annual Food Drive to Support Baldwin County.

SouthernCare Hospice is proud to launch its 21st Annual Food Drive on September 1, continuing its commitment to fighting food insecurity in the communities we serve. Last year, the campaign provided more than one million meals—a milestone we aim to match again this year. We invite community members to join us by donating non-perishable food items to support local hunger relief efforts.

Throughout September, SouthernCare Hospice will be collecting food donations to benefit Ecumenical Ministries of Baldwin County.

WHEN:
September 1–30, 2025

WHERE:
Donations can be dropped off at:

SouthernCare Hospice
1819 N. McKenzie Street, Foley, AL 36535

Graham Creek Nature Preserve (Interpretive Center Lobby)
23030 Wolf Bay Drive, Foley, AL 36535

Hunger remains a pressing issue across the country. According to Feeding America, nearly 12 million seniors and older adults experience food insecurity. For older adults, food insecurity can severely impact health, exacerbating chronic conditions such as diabetes and heart disease. As an organization dedicated to serving seniors, SouthernCare Hospice is committed to helping ensure that no one in our community goes without this most basic need—nutritious food.

Together, we can reach our goal of providing one million meals and make a lasting impact in our community.

We’ve been serving patients in Baldwin County for 29 years, and are proud to take great care of our community members. To earn the Hospice Honors award, agencies must surpass the MatrixCare National Performance Score on at least 20 evaluated survey questions. The prestigious Hospice Honors Elite designation is reserved for agencies that exceed the national score on all 24 evaluated questions—an achievement earned by only the most outstanding hospice providers.

Our August Employee of the Month is Rachel Hughes! Rachel has been a part of the SouthernCare team since February 2024 as a nurse case manager. When asked about her job she states, "I love the connections I make with my patients and their loved ones. I enjoy getting to know the stories of how they met their spouse, where they grew up, what it was like when they were children." When asked what she thinks everyone should know about hospice, Rachel said, "Hospice isn't just about end-of-life care. It is also a celebration of the closure of a person's story and life. The end is just as, if not more, important than the beginning."
During Rachel's free time, she enjoys working in her garden, reading and spending time with her twins.
Please join us in congratulating Rachel for her exceptional dedication and outstanding work with SouthernCare hospice.
