Sometimes people ask us how youth ministry fits into the vision of Powerhouse. What you might not know is roughly 15% of our students have lived in one of our recovery centers. For some, this means they have watched a parent fight for their own sobriety and the life change they so desperately needed. Others have lost hope as a parent refused to change and left our programs. Then there are the students who have lived in complete darkness as their parents choose to never even try.

Youth group is a safe haven for these teens who are trying to navigate the chaos of their circumstances. At Powerhouse, it is our privilege to help break cycles, but sometimes the answer is to prevent one from ever starting.

“Going into summer retreat, I was really struggling. I had made some mistakes this past school year, and it honestly felt like there was no way to come back from it. I started believing lies about myself, like I wasn’t enough or that I had messed up too badly to ever come back from it. On the very first night, during worship and the message, I broke down. It felt like God was talking straight to me—calling out those lies and reminding me of who I really am in Him.”

Ignite Youth retreats are all about building community for our middle and high school students. When we isolate, it’s easy to overthink, feel stuck, and forget who we really are. But when we’re surrounded by people who care—who want to lift us up and help us grow closer to Jesus—something powerful happens. Community reminds us of our worth and calls out the best in us.
