Happy Mercy Day! Today, September 24th, we honor the legacy of compassion left by Catherine McAuley and the Sisters of Mercy. Their mission of serving the poor and sick reached California over 150 years ago, and we proudly carry on that spirit of service. Today we celebrate the day the doors opened at the House of Mercy. Our employees, physicians, and volunteers strive to uphold the legacy of our foundresses - a legacy of mercy, compassion, and service.

Want to lower your risk of prostate cancer? ⬇️ While some risk factors like age and genetics are out of your control, you can make positive lifestyle choices that may help.!

Here are some tips that can support prostate health:
1️⃣ Exercise: Having a regular exercise routine can help maintain a healthy weight and reduce your chances of developing prostate cancer.
2️⃣ Eat a balanced diet: Fuel your body with a balanced diet rich in whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. This provides essential nutrients, supports overall health, and may help reduce the risk of serious conditions like cancer.
3️⃣ Quit smoking: Smoking and to***co use disrupt hormone levels and increase inflammation. These effects can contribute to an increased risk of various health issues, including prostate cancer.
4️⃣ Discuss prostate cancer screenings with your health care provider. For many men, discussions about prostate cancer screening typically begin around age 55 or earlier if you have a family history or other risk factors. Screenings can sometimes detect cancer before symptoms appear, and your provider can recommend a personalized plan according to your health needs.

Small changes can make a big difference. Talk to your doctor about your specific health plan!

It's not just about getting older. Understanding your risk factors for developing prostate cancer matters. ⚖️ While age is a primary risk factor (especially after age 50), truly understanding your personal risk profile is vital for making informed screening decisions.
What should you consider?
Age: Risk climbs significantly after age 50.
Family History: A close relative with prostate cancer, particularly if diagnosed under the age of 55, boosts your risk. Genetic connections like BRCA1, BRCA2 and Lynch Syndrome also matter.
Race or Ethnicity: Black men face a higher risk and often experience more aggressive disease.
Lifestyle: Diet, obesity and certain environmental factors may also play a role.
