❄️ Cold Plunge After Lifting? Might Want to Rethink It! ❄️

Ever thought your ice baths post-lift were helping build muscle? 🤔

Research says it might be doing the opposite! This study looked at cold water immersion (CWI) vs. active recovery after resistance exercise and found some surprising results:

🔬 What They Found: Post-exercise cold immersion did not boost the molecular signals for muscle growth (like IGF-1), remodeling, or protein synthesis pathways as effectively as an active recovery. And while CWI might feel good after a tough session, it may actually blunt muscle gains if used too often.

⚖️ What’s the Trade-Off? Regularly jumping into that ice bath may interfere with muscle hypertrophy and long-term strength gains by suppressing essential growth factors. So, if muscle growth is the goal, maybe save the cold plunge for recovery days, not right after lifting.

💡 Takeaway: Cold water is great for recovery, but timing matters! For optimal gains, consider an active cool-down after lifting to support muscle adaptation.
