Join us for a sweet way to make a difference! We’re hosting a Bake Sale to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Association, supporting research, awareness, and care for those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

Dear friends,

It is with hearts heavy-with-sadness that we say goodbye to our beloved friend, “Doc”, the swan. Doc took his final flight over the rainbow bridge on Monday, May 5th, 2025.

Ever the vigilant guardian, Doc spent his days on patrol of his territory, known as the grounds supervisor protecting his mate, Mert. His guardianship of the pond also proved beneficial for our residents by preventing Canada Geese from fouling our wheelchair paths. Doc’s determination to repel invaders provided Woodlands Residents, staff, and visitors with endless enjoyment, conversation, speculation, and education.

Doc’s age was approximately 24 years. Our swans were gifted to Woodlands by their namesakes, residents Doc and Mert. Swan experts says that swans can “live up to 25 years when well-cared-for”. And, by golly, our swans have certainly been well-cared-for, loved, admired, and respected, here at Woodlands Senior Park.

Doc is survived by: his beloved life-partner “Mert”, his devoted caretakers the Hendrickson Family, and his dedicated members of our maintenance staff. Doc, we miss you already. You will always hold a special place in our hearts. Our memories of our time with you will inevitably lift the weight of grief, and return our joy.

Please keep Docs lifelong partner,Mert in your prayers as she grieves the loss of her companion.

Private memorial will take place on our memorial garden with residents.
