There’s a special kind of magic that happens when little boots crunch snow, tiny hands gather sticks, and imagination is given the space to roam freely in the woods. 🌲✨

Our Tiny Ones TimberNook series invites children ages 1–6 (with a caregiver) to slow down and explore the seasons together through open-ended, child-led play—right in the heart of nature.

❄️ January | Snow Art
💌 February | Valentine’s Day Post Office
🍕 March | Pizza Kitchen

Each program transforms the forest into something new—an art studio made of snow, a woodland post office filled with heartfelt deliveries, a bustling pizza kitchen crafted from mud, leaves, and sticks. We provide thoughtful materials to spark ideas, and the woods do the rest.

Playing outside in every season supports growing bodies and brains—building resilience, confidence, creativity, and a deep sense of comfort in the natural world.

🕤 9:30–11:00am

The kids found buried treasure in the woods today that helped them create shelters, go fishing, and cook to “survive”…but I think you can tell what the standout favorite activity they decided to do today was!

They used loose parts like wooden ladders, ropes, and wooden boards to create their own sleds. They even assessed the risks when it seemed like something wasn’t a good idea and came up with safety solutions themselves. They worked together to get those big ladders up a slippery, snowy hill.

It may look like “just sledding” to some people, but it’s so much more than that.
✔️ Teamwork
✔️ Problem solving
✔️ Risk assessment & mitigation
✔️ Physical activity
✔️ LOTS of laughs

When the sun goes down, the woods hum with possibility…🌕

As daylight fades, the kids get to step into the Wisconsin winter woods ❄️ where the air is sharp, boots crunch through snow, and darkness invites a whole new kind of play.

Flashlights slice through the trees. Glow sticks streak color across the forest floor. Laughter echoes as kids race, hide, build, negotiate rules, and chase ideas that shift and grow with the night.

With lights, loose parts, and imagination, children create their own games—marking glowing boundaries, inventing challenges, changing the rules mid-play, and discovering just how alive the woods can feel after dark. Every shadow sparks curiosity. Every sound pulls them deeper into the moment.

🤩 This is the kind of experience that sends kids home flushed and buzzing—fingers chilly, cheeks rosy, stories tumbling out before the car even starts.

✨ We still have a few spots open and would love to fill them!

👉 Register now to give your child a winter evening they’ll remember long after the snow melts.

❄️ A snowy hill. A wooden plank. And the kind of laughter that bubbles up when a child is fully in charge of their own play.

In moments like these, children are problem-solving, taking healthy risks, trusting their bodies — and feeling the pure joy that comes from doing something their way.

✨ This is the heart of TimberNook: honoring child-led play, protecting childhood, and making space for joy, movement, and imagination to lead the way.

If this resonates with you and you are passionate about making sure TimberNook play opportunities are available for all children, you can donate to our Financial Assistance fund. Through donors, 5 children were able to attend our summer camps completely free or at a reduced price. Those children have lasting magical childhood memories thanks to donors like you.

Two days, two transformative play experiences❄️🌲

We’re kicking off the new year with two drop-off TimberNook adventures for children ages 7–12, each offering something truly special in the woods of winter.

✨ January 2 | 9am–1pm | Winter Treasure Hunt
Digging through deep snow, children will work in teams to uncover buried survival treasure. What’s hidden beneath the snow? Each team will discover different tools and clues that invite problem-solving, teamwork, and hands-on survival skills. Who will find their treasure first—and how will they work together to unlock what’s inside?

🌙 January 3 | 3–6pm | Winter Night Games
As the sun sets, the woods transform. Children will experience the novelty and wonder of being outside in the dark—playing classic night games with a TimberNook twist. Crunching snow underfoot, glowing lantern light, and the quiet magic of winter at dusk create an unforgettable evening of movement, imagination, and adventure.

Two days. Two very different experiences. One unforgettable way to start the year in the woods. 🤍

These kids came to their 2nd day of our Winter Festival with ideas already in their heads of what they wanted to do, and they made sure they RAN to get the supplies they wanted.

One of the pillars of TimberNook is child-led play. Child-led play gives children the freedom to follow their own ideas, interests, and instincts—building confidence, creativity, and problem-solving skills along the way. When children are trusted to lead their play, they practice decision-making, self-regulation, and collaboration in ways that feel meaningful and joyful. At TimberNook, we see how this kind of play nurtures resilient, capable children who learn best when they are deeply engaged and truly in charge of their own experiences.

All this snow lately has us thinking… it’s time for a little holiday magic in the woods! ❄️✨

On December 22–23, children ages 7-12 are invited to step into a truly immersive TimberNook adventure right here in the woods of Wisconsin.

🎅 Day 1: Santa’s Workshop
Kids will transform the woods into Santa’s bustling workshop—building, creating, becoming elves, and delivering “presents” through imaginative play. It’s the kind of open-ended, big-body movement that brings stories to life!

🎄 Day 2: Festival of Trees
Children will design and build their own woodland Festival of Trees using natural materials and loose parts—each tree as unique as the child who creates it.

This two-day program is packed with wonder, creativity, and holiday cheer. The perfect way to celebrate the season outdoors!

✨ Spots are limited—register today to save your child’s place in the magic.

Winter in Wisconsin doesn’t mean pressing pause on outdoor play — it actually opens the door to some of the best learning and adventure of the year. ❄️🌲

From boosting immunity and building real-world resilience to sparking imaginative play in a snowy woodland “blank canvas,” winter gives kids what indoor spaces simply can’t.

They move more.
They regulate better.
They sleep harder.
They connect deeper.

And they discover that Wisconsin winters aren’t something to endure… they’re something to embrace.
Swipe through to see why we love getting kids outside all season long — and why they thrive because of it. 💚
If you’re ready to let your child experience the magic of winter in the woods, our TimberNook programs are here all season long.

🌲 Step into the sweetest little Christmas bakery tucked right inside the woods…

🍪 On December 6th from 9:30-11am, our Tiny Ones program (ages 1–6 with a caregiver) will explore their very own Christmas woodland bakery — where leaves become sprinkles, sticks turn into rolling pins, and imagination is the secret ingredient in every pretend cookie.

And the best part? ⬇️

🎅 These tiny bakers will also get to decorate real cookies to take home (or share with Santa… if they make it that far ).

Little hands will mix, scoop, squish, pretend-bake, and create the sweetest holiday memories under the trees in the winter wonderland.

If your tiny elf loves messy play, holiday magic, and delicious treats, this is the coziest adventure of the season.
