So much fun building roads at Tiny Ones this morning!

At TimberNook, we are very intentional in how we stage the environment to inspire creative and independent play. We bring in loose parts but also utilize the natural elements at our site as much as we can. Because nature in itself is therapeutic!

We’ve got some good news for you 👇🏼

🌟There is no right or wrong way to play.

Some children play by observing others play before they decide to join in.
Some children want to play by themselves.
Some children would rather play with others.
Some children play very quietly and gently.
Some children play loud and boisterously.

All children learn and develop differently, and all children (like adults) have different personalities and preferences. But no matter what your child is like, open-ended play opportunities out in nature like we provide at TimberNook is beneficial - no matter what age also!

When your child attends a TimberNook program, you are providing them such an amazing opportunity to dive deep into play in whatever way that they choose. Independent play is a learned skill. The more opportunities they are given to practice it, the more naturally it will come to them.

(And if your child hangs onto your leg 99% of the time and follows you around even when you try to stay inconspicuous like Jess’s toddler….no worries. They won’t be like that forever. 😉)

This isn’t your typical adult-led playgroup…this is child-led, open-ended play opportunities out in nature, which is the ideal place to play and learn!

COMMUNITY HELP NEEDED!
Sometime between 8:30pm Wednesday and 8:00am Friday of this week, some of our supplies at our site in Kiekhaefer Park went missing. We are missing one of our signs, one of our wooden ladders, and two of these tree rings, which we use to put a tarp up for shelter when it’s raining.

We are heartbroken someone would come and destroy/steal our things on purpose, and we know we will never find out who did this - but we are asking for everybody’s help if you see any of our supplies (especially if you’re out and about in or near Kiekhaefer Park) please contact us. We’d just like our stuff back please! Thank you for your help.

Our favorite quote from the youth group night program we hosted last night:
“I am really intense in the woods. I swear I’m not like this in real life.”

These kids were invested in the play last night! They worked together as teams, strategized, and let loose in a way so many kids don’t get to anymore - in the woods, away from screens and the adult world.
