Cough and Respiratory: Wild Cherry Bark
Making wild cherry bark cough syrup is a natural way to soothe coughs. Here's a simple recipe:
Ingredients:
Wild Cherry Bark - 2 tablespoons (dried and chopped)
Water - 2 cups
Honey - 1/2 to 1 cup (adjust to taste)
Optional Additions:
Ginger root (for warmth and added soothing properties)
Cinnamon stick (for flavor and additional benefits)
Cloves (for antiseptic properties)
Instructions:
Prepare the Decoction:
Place the wild cherry bark in a saucepan.
Add the water and bring it to a boil.
Reduce the heat and let it simmer gently for about 20–30 minutes.
Strain the Liquid:
Remove from heat and let the decoction cool slightly.
Strain the mixture using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a clean container. Discard the bark and any optional spices used.
Sweeten with Honey:
Once the liquid has cooled to lukewarm (not hot), stir in the honey. Use more honey if you want a thicker consistency or sweeter syrup.
Store:
Pour the syrup into a sterilized glass jar or bottle.
Label the container with the date and ingredients.
Use:
Take 1 teaspoon every few hours as needed for cough relief.
Suitable for adults and children over one year old (due to the honey).
Notes:
Shelf Life: Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Safety: Ensure the wild cherry bark is properly identified and sourced from a reputable supplier. Avoid overuse as it contains natural compounds that may be toxic in large amounts.
This homemade remedy is an excellent way to harness the natural soothing properties of wild cherry bark for respiratory health!
