New Jersey Basic Needs Information Hub - Get Food This Week

Food pantries and soup kitchens are good options for anyone needing access to food quickly, this includes students and their family members. Eligibility for assistance differs depending on the local organization you are seeking support from. There are several organizations that only require you to be a New Jersey resident and others that welcome everyone, no questions asked.

Get Food This Week

The government shutdown is now entering its fourth week...

As of November 1st, nearly 41.7 million SNAP participants and their families are at risk of a disruption in their benefits, including 827,000 New Jersey residents, or about 9% of our state’s population. Many of these households include someone who is elderly or disabled and already struggles to put food on the table.

At ACI’s CommUnity Market, we currently serve over 200 individuals with disabilities and their families monthly. We’re struggling to meet the growing need and anticipate it will only get worse; our shelves are nearly bare.

With SNAP benefits at risk, we expect many more food-insecure families to come through our doors seeking nutritious food to feed their families.

How you can help:
- Organize a food drive
- Donate a ShopRite, Amazon, or any gift card

Donations can be made through PayPal on our website (adacil.org) or call us at 732-738-4388 and ask for Samantha Gavron (sgavron@adacil.org) or Argenys Caba (acaba@adacil.org).

We need your help more than ever! Every little bit helps!

As of December 31st, the premium tax credits for enrollees of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace are set to expire. The result will be a premium increase of over $1,000 annually for many consumers.

Nearly 450,000 New Jerseyans get coverage under the ACA. How will the increase in health care coverage premiums affect you?

Senator Cory Booker has asked the ACI to collect stories from people who are impacted by this. How has ACA benefitted you and your family? Will you still be able to afford healthcare after December 31st? How will the healthcare needs of you and your family be impacted if the tax credits are not renewed?

Send your stories to Bianca_Markovski@booker.senate.gov and lkoppisch@adacil.org

If you have any questions, please contact Luke Koppisch at lkoppisch@adacil.org

Various resources from Senator Andy Kim:

Our office will also be hosting a Constituent Services Resource Fair on Monday, October 6th from 2-6pm at Raritan Valley Community College (118 Lamington Rd., Branchburg, NJ 08876). Resources will be geared toward help people can get during a federal government shutdown from local and state government agencies, as well as community organizations and nonprofits.

As things remain uncertain in Washington D.C., we wanted to share some additional resources that may be helpful to you in New Jersey, now or at another point in the future.
