To My Friends, Family, Neighbors and Loyal Customers,

With a heavy heart I announce my retirement and closing of the Red Cross Pharmacy. For 86 years the Red Cross has been in business in this community and it has been my life’s work for the past 42 years. A year long search for a pharmacist to take over the pharmacy was unsuccessful. Regretfully, the current pharmacy climate does not support independent pharmacies and for this reason I have no choice but to close our doors as of September 4, 2024. I always considered it a great honor and privilege to serve the community of Forest City.

As a boy, I was raised in a home that sat above the original drug store. Each day, I would work in the store, alongside mom and dad, helping our community members to solve real life, everyday issues. The Red Cross Pharmacy became a cornerstone of our community, and it was truly amazing to see the impact we had on so many. I was so inspired by the work my father was doing in our community, that I too felt compelled to pursue a degree in pharmacy and carry on the Red Cross Pharmacy legacy.

Eventually we moved across the street to a larger building, allowing us to offer more products and services to the community. It is here where we have been located for almost 30 years, serving you while employing and serving generations of yours and ours; friends, families, and neighbors. While time moves on, and things change, the heart and soul of this incredible community does not. The amazing sense of community pride, kindness and generosity for each other, and overall warm sense of welcome, will always be symbols of Forest City and the Red Cross Pharmacy. There is no place quite like it, and it will forever be my home.

To the community that raised me as a boy, thank you. To the community that supported my father’s passion and dreams, thank you. To the community that helped my wife Mary Jane and I provide a loving home and life to our 3 incredible and beautiful daughters; Kelly, Amy, and Beth, thank you. To Tish, for truly being the backbone of the Red Cross Pharmacy these last few years, I can never thank you enough. To the pharmacists, employees and staff who have worked behind our counter over the years, thank you. To our generations of loyal customers, thank you for always sticking with us.

In the coming days, your prescription files will be transferred to Rite Aid, 54 N Main St., Carbondale, PA. We want to make this a seamless transition for you and to avoid any disruption in your medication supply. Rite Aid has all the information, and will make it easy to continue on with your prescription needs. It’s not a goodbye, but rather a “see you again soon,” to all the familiar faces in Forest City whom I will always fondly remember and cherish.
