STUDENT OPTOMETRIC ASSOCIATION OF PACIFIC UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF OPTOMETRY

This organization shall be known by the name STUDENT OPTOMETRIC ASSOCIATION, or by the abbreviation SOA, and shall be the affiliation of Pacific University College of Optometry (PUCO) with the American Optometric Student Association(AOSA), which is an affiliate of the American Optometric Association (AOA).

Join AMIGOS and Forest Grove Lions Club in the Halloween 🎃 themed 5k Run & Walk for Sight and Hearing next Saturday, October 30th at 10:00am!

Want to support them but can’t make it to Forest Grove? Great news! You can participate virtually as well!! To participate virtually, you can begin running/walking anytime starting the 30th until Nov 6th. You can track your time using an app and then just send them a screenshot of your results!

In recognition of May as “Healthy Vision Month”, check out this awesome view of an optic nerve using contact fundus biomicroscopy!

“Approximately 37 million adults in America have age-related macular degeneration, cataract, diabetic retinopathy, or glaucoma, all of which can cause visual impairment or blindness. However, recent studies show that making healthy choices and getting regular eye exams can help reduce a person’s risk of vision loss. In support of Healthy Vision Month in May, the American Academy of Ophthalmology is encouraging everyone to take charge of their eye health and preserve their sight by following some simple tips.”

In case you missed out last weekend on the infamous OptoCup (2021 edition) organized by the Sports Vision Club, here are some photos from the event showcasing our very own Dr. Dunn, Kaylan Phillips, and Micah Hoellein! Don't worry, you can join in on the fun next year! 😁⛳️👀

Fun Fact: Dr. Dunn and her husband were golfing with Valley Contax Custom Stable golf balls. They are a local scleral lens company in Springfield, Oregon, and according to Dr. Dunn, are awesome!

Speaking of Sports Vision...in lieu of April being Sports Eye Safety Month, below are some stats pulled from aao.org!

"Each year, an estimated 100,000 people are hurt by sports-related eye injuries. About 13,500 of these injuries result in permanent vision loss. In support of Sports Eye Safety Month this April, the American Academy of Ophthalmology reminds athletes everywhere that the great majority of sports-related eye injuries can be avoided by simply wearing the proper protection."
