My kids couldn’t understand why I was gushing watching the first episode of Ms. Marvel with . Growing up in Queens, NY, there were plenty of girls who looked like me but none on TV or in the movies. So when I went to grad school, I abandoned any dreams I had of acting. This is such a huge step for my shade of brown and I’m so psyched. Thank you and for making a grown woman cry for joy!

Don’t just exist. INVEST.

People who invest pay close attention to their most valued relationships. They listen to the spoken and unspoken. They respect their own needs and do difficult inner work. Those who invest are more interested in doing for others and are grateful for it.

People who exist focus on short-term goals. They are self-involved and not evolved. They are not their honest selves and therefore, don’t have authentic experiences or relationships. They sometimes act small often because they feel small. Those that exist tend to find flaws with others instead of the beauty.

No one’s worth is their degree or money in the bank. Give what you can of yourself in time, material or emotions, and it’ll come back ten-fold. Reciprocate and appreciate. Show love and appreciation freely and it will set you free. How you’re valued by those closest to you is your true worth. Investing yields immeasurable dividends while existing depreciates.

A new large study showed that infants born in poverty showed significantly high brain activity when their mothers were given a large ($333) unconditional monthly cash sum than those infants whose mothers were only given $20/month. Now, there are lots of factors to explore like what these mothers did with the money, how it benefited the children, but the scans were incredible at age 1. Who knew? 💰💰💰

Many of our adult relationships, trials and tribulations, can be traced back to childhood trauma. Just because there wasn’t violence, doesn’t mean it didn’t hurt and shape you. Choose how you heal that trauma so you break that cycle. You are not your parents. Invest in honest self-reflection, therapy, and surround yourself with quality people who will support you but tell you the truth.
